My full name remains nonplussed.

Google Plus told me a while ago that I was pre-approved for a custom URL: google.com/+myfullname. I wanted it to be displayed a certain way, so I changed my nickname several times while being fickle about how it should appear. Now it says there's a limit on how often I can change my name, and I've reached it. Will I be able to change my name (nickname and display name) in the future, and if so, how can I figure out when? It's already been several months.

Like boldomatic, but for a desktop browser. (*sigh*)

I'm looking for a dead-simple tool that generates an image consisting of text on a plain, colored, rectangular background for posting to social media. (Please stop yelling. I agree with you. A family friend has asked me repeatedly for a recommendation. Saying, "no," is absolutely not an option here.) Is there an existing, uncomplicated tool that does this already? Browser-based would be fantastic. [more inside]

How to not get upset if my partner sees my friends' news before me?

Facebook scams?

I've noticed a lot more 'chain letter' type stuff in my Facebook news feed recently. "See what happens when you press L!" for example, or any number of apps which will create data visualizations of your profile. What (if any) is the financial motivation behind this? I have a feeling that these may be used to gain access to large numbers of profile names, or (in the case of apps) get data-mining access to private profiles. Is this the case, or is it more innocuous than that?

Which CMS for building a social networking website?

I've been brought onboard by a startup company to fix up their social networking website, which was built for them in Joomla and is a complete glitch-filled mess, both front and back end. After upgrading to the latest Joomla version, the site has more or less broken (does not function at all at the front end). Should I attempt to patch up and rebuild this mess in Joomla, or start over with a better choice of CMS? [more inside]

Create a mini 'classmates.com'

I want to create a web page that would allow alumni of my little public elementary school to a) see a calendar of evening events they'd be welcome to attend b) browse a list of opportunities to volunteer, and, most importantly c) 'register' with an email address to join a mailing list and receive notices of the above. Since these are children, everything has to be moderated and likely a parent will be in charge of checking to make sure kids are who they say they are. I'm somewhat social-networking challenged and know that there are 'groups' for this sort of thing on yahoo and elsewhere- is there an obvious choice for this?

Hey, Are We Related?

with all this internet connectedness, I've met a few different people online (either through facebook, twitter or geni) who share my not-very-common last name, and we've tried to determine if we're related by relating some of the oldest relatives we know who share the surname, but usually we don't find any overlap.
