Does Germany have its own LinkedIn? Is there a strong professional social networking community in Germany apart from LinkedIn, in the way France has viadeo? China and Japan are also of interest, but I care most about Germany. For the sake of future readers, other countries are welcome. Does not have to be in English.
Help me find a speech on secrecy introducing the experience of having high clearance. It was an excerpt from a book, and was a speech given from someone who already had clearance to a state official who was about to gain such clearance. Involved how one's attitude changes over time. I think I saw it on boingboing or kottke but my google-fu is failing so far. [more inside]

Is there any way to have Facebook tell me who dropped off my friends list?
I have a fear that people will perceive my intentions as the exact opposite of what they really are. I'm scared the people who I feel friendly towards will perceive me as hostile, rude, or uncaring. I worry that those I love the most will think I don't care. What the heck is my problem? And what can I do to straighten myself out? [more inside]
I want to learn as much as possible about the psychology of purposely forming new habits (like exercising each day) or sticking to something which requires daily work (like learning a language). I am especially interested in the role that social pressure of peers can play in a person's success (Alcoholics Anonymous, study partners, even the recent findings that a person's weight is related to the weight of those close to them may be examples). Books, articles, jumping off points -- academic or otherwise -- would be very much appreciated!

I was "homeschooled" from age 11 to 18 by emotionally/verbally abusive and neglectful parents. During this time I was deprived of contact with the outside world, an education, medical care, and much needed therapy and medication for what is obvious to most people in the world except my parents. I'm an American guy in my mid-late twenties living in Melbourne, Australia for (at least) the next eight months. My social life was quite exciting when I first moved here during late summer, but lately it feels a bit stagnant at times. I'm looking for ideas of activities to get involved with, to make use of my free time and help me connect with new people (friends of both sexes, plus THE LADIES). [more inside]

A girl I am currently living with and working with abroad has the terrible habit of unknowingly chewing all of her food with her mouth open and making a terribly annoying sound. We´re friendly though not best friends. Do I tell her? I feel like I would only be doing her a favor but I haven´t known her that long and I don´t know if it´s my place to intervene. Thoughts?

A couple of wannabe college students showed up at my door asking if I would be interested in a $1,500 home security system and lifetime service in exchange for posting a security company sign in my front yard. They left me a card to fill out that asked for all my crucial information, including social security number and date of birth, that had boxes to check for accepting, or rejecting, the promotional offer. The card they left didn't have the name of the alarm company on it, a website address, phone number, nada. What do the guys get out of it? The company pays them $500 toward their tuition for every customer they sign up. What does the company get out of it? Supposedly, free lawn signeage/advertising.
Hey you fancy phone app developers... how do you usually charge when you're doing an app for a licensor? What's standard? What kinds of contracts and stipulations do you sign? What kinds of fee structure? And what are the things a SMART licensor should really know and pay attention to along the road while building a new app for the public? (I hope these questions make sense.) [more inside]

I've just graduated with my Master's in Social Work and am waiting to be approved to take the licensing exam in my state. Getting a job without a license is veeeery difficult. Also difficult: paying my bills when I have no income. I know opportunities will present themselves once I'm licensed but...any ideas as to what I can do to make money for a few months in the interim? So far it's babysitting and the food service industry... but is there anything even slightly social service-related I can do part-time? Or just easy, temporary gigs? Get rich quick schemes? Thanks all!
