So, I've recently inherited the community and social media role for the company I work for. I'm hoping to use our social media presence to drive up engagement and get users to use our product (a niche-focused social network in the finance realm), but I want to do it
without being a douchebag.

Does Germany have its own LinkedIn? Is there a strong professional social networking community in Germany apart from LinkedIn, in the way France has
viadeo? China and Japan are also of interest, but I care most about Germany. For the sake of future readers, other countries are welcome. Does not have to be in English.

Hey all,
Just a quick question, here. Currently I am trying to manage a number of blog-esque sites, i.e. MySpace, Face book, Word press, and of course Metafilter. I was wondering if anyone knew of programs to help maximize my productivity when updating these.
For example, I often post new songs I have created. Is there any program that would allow me to post an update across all my pages from one central hub? How about managing my messages from these sites? Any way to manage those in my regular email, or is there a program that could unify these?
Basically I'm wondering if there is some type of "command station" program to help manage multiple sites like this one.
Thanks in advance for any help! Hope you all had a great weekend.

I will be doing some consulting work. Basically I will be strategizing with a very small company on optimizing their presence on the web and helping them with social networking. Here's my problem-- I have no idea what to charge for my time. I will spend two hours driving to them and probably an hour or two consulting. What do you think I should charge? I don't want to be too low but I am also scared that I might be too high. What do you think would be a good rate? I am located in the Philadelphia area if that makes any difference.

I need new business cards! In addition to my day job, I also am affiliated with several organizations and I am one of those hyper connected social media jerks who twitter, facebook, flickr and all that crap. I have my own domain name which is my full name .com
My question is, how can I make one business card that can fill in for ALL of my organizations AND connect people to my social media profiles, perhaps integrating with info on a website, yet still be professional looking enough to hand out at conferences and the like without being self conscious?

I'm at the tail end of demo-ing dozens of 'social networking platforms' and services like ning, collectivex, and alfresco community -- trying to find a solution for managing an affinity group. Each has its strengths and weaknesses. I've also looked at many 'knowledge management' and 'groupware' applications. I think I need something something that sits between linkedin, facebook, twitter, and... basic, searchable member profiles.

Are there any websites out there that combine the features of a social network with the features of a listserv ? I am about to graduate from a short-term writing program that doesn't currently have an organized way for alumni to network. I'd like to help create an alumni website where we can view each other's profiles and also send and receive announcements or questions via email.

I am looking to build a relatively simple, focused social networking site which will not initially be open to the public and membership will be through invitation only.
Are there pre-written codes I can use, buy or otherwise take advantage of? Also, if you have made a networking site what did you learn in the process that would be good for me to know up front.
