I've started seeing a dietitian who has recommended a mindful approach to food and eating as part of my ongoing progress towards health. I'm a busy student and freelancer who is about 50/50 at home or rushing about town to uni, meetings, jobs and shows, but I love cooking: I'd really like to have some mindful snacks that I can have at home or carry in my bag on busy days. What do you recommend, Mefites? [Special snowflakes inside, produced and packed in Australia] [more inside]

I need a collection of ideas for easily prepared, light meals to serve when friends drop by. Think lunch or small plates to go with a glass of wine. Often friends will drop by within a couple hours notice. They like to eat and I like to be a good host. No firm dietary restrictions for most but these friends are interested in healthy eating, fewer carbs. One vegetarian in the mix. The entire meal does not have to be vegetarian. Thank you!
My office has a Scotch Club, where a group of people have monthly Scotch tastings. High-end single malts. These people are serious tasters. Tomorrow is my first meeting. I wanna bring a snack that I can buy at any well-appointed supermarket and don't have to cook or do much preparing. Besides cigars, fireplaces and Nick Offerman, what goes with Scotch?

I am seeking the absolute most top-notch way to make popcorn at home. Ideally, it would be air-popped, though I could use a little oil if needed. Looking for recommendations on both cooking method/devices, popcorn types, and any other accoutrements. [more inside]

I am on a quest to find recipes for things that are somewhat "salads" but that can function as a refrigerated snack that lasts for a few days after preparation. I don't know if there's a better term for this than "snack salads," but that's the purpose it would serve for me. [more inside]
So I've been diagnosed with hypertension, which means (amongst other things) I am looking at reducing my salt intake. But for me, salt is very dear and things taste wrong without it. I am particularly struggling with savoury snacks, which are already pretty rare. There are heaps of sweet ones, but not much I can think of which is savoury and unsalty. Help! [more inside]
My grandmother taught me that a game of bridge can be vicious and cut throat, but she didn't teach me what it takes to host a card game. A couple of friends are coming over Saturday night to play cards (probably bridge, but we might play hearts euchre) and I don't know what to provide other than paper for scoring, a table, and a deck of cards. What food or drinks should I serve? [more inside]

Is there any place on this Planet Earth where I can pick and choose the freezer pop flavors I like such as lime (lemon lime) and orange and not just get a box of "Assorted"? [more inside]
What are your go to snacks and beverages when craving sugar? I'm trying to give up processed foods again and the sugar detox last time was killer. I'd like to find a variety of ideas to increase my chances of success. [more inside]
We are trying to clean out our pantry in advance of a house move, and want to use as much as possible to make snacks for our goodbye-old-house party. One of the things in our pantry is a box of S&B Japanese Curry mix (medium hot). Given that a big pot of curry isn't really a good finger food, what would you suggest we make with it? (For those who are not familiar with this ingredient, it is not a powder, but more like a stew/sauce base.)
My new favorite way to entertain is what we're affectionately calling cocktail club—a casual drop-in thing with a cocktail of the night and snacks. The cover charge is limes and lemons. Usually 4-6 people are present at any given time. We do it every week, sometimes a couple times a week, and it is the best. I need more ideas for cocktails, foods, and making it THE BEST EVER! I get super hungry at work. I have a fast metabolism and I can feel my blood sugar getting low and then I NEED FOOD NOW and end up spending money at the cafeteria or vending machine, which is too much sugar and too much money. I ride a motorcycle in so it's not convenient for me to physically bring stuff in--I want to set up weekly/monthly auto-renewed deliveries of snacks from Amazon that aren't too sugary or too expensive. [more inside]
I'd like to stock up on some protein heavy snacks to keep at my desk for the days I'm less organized. The big difficulty is that I'm allergic to tree nuts and can't eat meat. Shelf stable would be ideal, but as long as I'm not having to do prep every day, refrigerated would probably be okay.
My wife is a nurse and she works long shifts and packs her lunch. She loves cool kitchen food gadgets. Does anyone have any suggestions? [more inside]
I volunteered to bring some vegan snacks to an afterwork get together; could be anything from hummus and carrots to something more substantial. I need to be able to assemble or make it/them the day before. Thank you!
I'm a grown woman, but when I haven't eaten and my sugar drops, the "hangriness" starts. The anger, irritation, total irrationality. I've tried carrying luna bars, etc, (though that doesn't help a ton) but I think I'd like to throw together some snack packs (like,a ziplock bag with assorted goodies) for myself to toss in my bag when I'm out the door. I'll also be traveling a lot in the next couple months, and definitely need to be on top of this. I'd love some suggestions on what kinds of food to throw in my snack packs.

My boyfriend is having some coworkers over tomorrow night for a little get-together/party thing. This isn't their official christmas party (they had that at work last night), just a few (6-7 or so people) getting together. When asked about what he's doing for food, my boyfriend just assumed they'd all just go to the grocery store to get something, which I personally find pretty... weird. As I'm helping host, I want to provide better noms! [more inside]
Inspired but discouraged by the class assumptions inherent in various rare/unique foods challenge lists (possibly spammy example) that include pricey and rare foods like fugu, absinthe and black truffle, friends and I are working on a similar list that focuses on food that anyone who eats could potentially find and afford to eat. This week we'll be embarking on a complicated task at work that will take about two days. The last time we did a couple of us brought junk food snacks, but two of the women in our group are perpetually dieting and spent the day looking longingly at the food, and then seeming very regretful when they eventually ate it. That makes me sad. I'd like to bring some food that they wouldn't feel bad about eating. [more inside]
I'm looking for midnight snacks that are less likely to cause tooth problems/tooth decay/etc. Assume that I'm grabbing this food in the middle of the night and then going back to bed without brushing my teeth. [more inside]

So, a few weeks ago we were in Freeport, Maine and saw a giant whoopie pie, which we knew immediately would be the perfect Chrismas gift for my youngest brother. Then, tonight, my wife found a giant Rice Krispie Treat, which she bought as a Christmas gift for my middle brother. So now we have A Theme for amusing consumables for the rest of the family. But now we need to come up with some other Abnormally Large Food Items for 5-6 other family members. Help me find them. [more inside]

Are there any online retailers of snack foods (cookies, candy, pretzels) that will deliver to Norway? I don't understand customs regulations very well, but I think these may have to be stores actually in Norway. I would be paying with a US credit card and am willing to muddle about the site with Google translate and squinting at the pictures.
