My neighbor smokes at all hours of the day and night. We don't have an AC and have to have our windows open at night in the summers, with a fan pointed out one window, drawing his smoke in the other while we try to sleep. It bothers me and my wife a lot. Wakes us up coughing dry throat.
He won't stop, we asked nicely. Are there any sort of filters we can use as a screen that will make any difference? I think it's cigars.

Our new commercial space is experiencing frequent false smoke alarms in one specific area of our AC ducts. The company that installed the AC system is stumped, and so is the electronic security company that installed the smoke detectors.
We've just had our ducts cleaned top to bottom but the problem persists even though we're presumably dust-free.
Any thoughts on what to try next? Engineers? Inspection services?

I often stay over at my girlfriend's condo, she lives with her mom. Both she and her mom are chronic smokers. Her entire family smokes. They both smoke inside the condo. My girlfriend will at least leave the room and go to the washroom to smoke. But when I go to take a shower I can smell the smoke strongly. Her mom will smoke in the living room while watching TV. I can feel the smoke in my lungs after leaving her place.
I have a history of lung cancer in my family as many of my family members have passed away from lung cancer after smoking for years. My dad is also currently battling colon cancer. My dad's battle has made me realize that this kind of situation is very bad for my health long term. I don't know what the solution is as my girlfriend doesn't drive, so cannot come to my place often and we live 30 minutes apart.
I want to ask her to quit smoking but I know how hard it is to do.
It isn't my place so I cannot tell them what to do but I'm just worried about my health from second hand smoke as well as her health. She doesn't seem interested in quitting smoking as it seems like something the entire family just does.
I love her but this is a concern for me.

I'm thinking of going down the e-cigarette route, but I've got a few questions I'm not sure about, in brief:
1) Is there any research out there on their effects on your health? I get that it's early days, and they've got to better than smoking, but are there side effects/dangers that I should be aware of?
2) Is there much difference between a cheap one I can buy at the supermarket, compared to an expensive one I buy on the internet?
3) What have your experiences been like with them? Is it difficult to make the jump from normal cigarettes? [more inside]

I’ve worn the same cologne off and on for about 20 years, and I think it’s time for a change. I’m looking for scents for everyday wear with woody notes (or citrus/fresh notes, like what I wear now). Nothing musky or spicy! [more inside]

The fan above my stove broke. I cook on the stovetop often, I've heard that the smoke from cooking could cause health problems down the road - but it's all anecdotal evidence. I've tried looking up some concrete information online, but what I can find is sparse. I'm opening the windows at the moment, but it's going to be too cold to do that soon. Is a fan necessary, or is cooking smoke not as bad as it's cracked up to be? Anyone else not using fans?

Any experience in Chicago with resolving secondhand smoke disputes? The neighbor across the hall in the condo I live in smokes incessantly when she is in town. I have reported that the smoke bothers me via the building management, but the smoke from her unit has only increased. It fills the hallway, as well as the unit I am renting.
I went through cancer treatment about a year ago, so I am particularly sensitive to cigarette smoke now. I experience headaches and nausea from the smoke. My unit smells like smoke-furniture, clothes, towels, etc. I am worried I will get cancer again.
I tried to seal the front door, but am not sure if I have done it the best way. (I'm not too handy.) I am also looking into filing a complaint with the department of public health. I live in a private high-rise residence; however, a good portion of the building is used for short-term corporate and vacation rentals. My neighbor owns her unit.
Thanks for any ideas.
