I want to make weird perfumes for fun. Like those Comme des Garçons colognes that smell like a gas station, or a dive bar, or whatever. Where would I find those types of scents (mown grass, burnt rubber, urine, rotten eggs, cigarette smoke etc)? Unsurprisingly, the essential oil suppliers don't stock them. [more inside]
Bought a vintage purse from etsy, and now the perfume-y, musty stank monster has taken over my apartment…help? [more inside]
I received a nice bar of soap as a holiday gift and I really like the particular cedar wood smell. So much so that I want to convert it, one way or another, into a wearable fragrance. How can I do this? [more inside]
Do you use Hermes perfumes? Do you like them? Can you explain them to me? I'm not a typical perfume wearer. I recently tried the Hermes fragrance Un Jardin Sur Le Toit at a friend's house and I really liked it. Then I started googling and found myself in a world of top notes, drydowns, accords, and other things where I don't even know what the words mean, much less how to understand them. Can you help me? For some time now I've had an on-off fascination with scent and perfume, particularly the artistic side of scent. How can I further explore this? [more inside]
I met a guy who was completely ordinary until I got close enough to smell him, at which point I went into overdrive. Has anyone else experienced this? What just happened here? [more inside]
Oh new shower curtains, glossy book pages, and auto-body shops: why do I love your aromas so? [more inside]
Help me find a nice/funny/not insane way to tell a guy I just started seeing that he's wearing too much cologne for me. Maybe I'm like this previous asker, but I find myself thinking things like, "ok, I'll sleep with him once and THEN tell him," which I know is kind of crazy. (Mostly because I'd rather not smell his cologne on my sheets for weeks after.) Is it ok to tell someone you just met that your lizard brain would like him a LOT better if he toned down the artificial scenting? I'm gay, if that matters, but any relevant experience or advice is welcome. Have you ever dealt with this situation successfully? [more inside]
Is it possible to get cologne smell out of clothing? I kind of "inherited" a half-dozen nice sweaters that reek of perfume, and I'm allergic as well. I've tried mucho baking soda and soaking in the wash machine; haven't tried vinegar yet; past (somewhat related) threads suggest Ozium and Synthrapol, but they're really not for this purpose.
How do you get rid of perfume odors that cling to everything? [more inside]
Cologne picking advice: it can't be as simple as "just pick what your like" or "bring a girl with you and buy what she likes"... can it?
How do I reverse engineer a scent? [more inside]
I need to get opinions on perfume, specifically from men, but women's experiences will help as well. (MI) [more inside]
