We're trying to understand what we can do about some financial hardships my fiance incurred from her previous relationship...
Let's say they agree that he owes her around $5,000 for rent and shared expenses when they were living together. But so far, he's payed her back next to no part of that. If she has records of the debt I imagine she could take him to small claims court, but how does that work? If a judge decides he owes her the money, but he's still broke, what happens then?

Is there a subpoena process in the Ontario small claims court system, and (if so) is it worth the time and effort to make use of it? I believe I was recently scammed by a rental car company for a non-trivial amount of money (for a student) and am hoping to both recoup my costs and really stick it to them.

Sleazy landlord withheld $6000 security deposit illegally, we won our small claims case and filed abstracts of judgment with the county recorder. We just found out one of their other properties is being sold at public auction July 2nd. We are filing a request of notice with the recorder today. What else do we need to do to ensure we are able to claim the money owed us from this sale?

When do I call a lawyer? I did some contract work for a small firm that has been unable to pay me. We're way past Net-30, and it's enough money that I can't deal with it in small claims court (about $15k). I'm in contact with them, and I believe that they want to pay me, but simply don't have the cash (I could be wrong). At what point do I stop waiting? Is it worth calling a lawyer if they don't have the money, or is it important to call a lawyer in case they declare bankruptcy?
