Should we create a business for our Airbnb listing? After our Mom moved into a rest home this year, we listed her (out of state) place on Airbnb and did surprisingly well. In fact, we grossed more than $10,000. But we frequently had incidental expenses - I had to fly in several times, the cleaning service was $75 each time, and there were some modest house expenses when things had to be replaced or were broken, etc. With our 2012 taxes coming up, we're wondering if it would be helpful to create a business for this, or if people have done this?

I'm curious how people hire employees for a business that only needs to have one employee present at any given time. How do you deal with sick days, lateness, etc.? Further details inside.

I'd like you to tell me if I should quit my job (I'm a member of the "ugh, I.T." chorus), but the snowflakey part is that it's not just my job. It's my small business. And to some degree, it's all I've got right now.

StartupFilter: What questions would you ask a startup you were thinking of joining? What questions would you ask yourself?
More about the startup: its a software company that has VC funding. They are just starting to create the product. There's less than ten people involved.
More about me: a corporate monkey who's looking for a change in life if possible but can stay put if that's best. I have a good job salary-wise right now, but I do not feel like I am moving anywhere with it. I have worked long hours in the past and am interested in the product being created. I felt the need to post anonymously because I have posted about my job here before.
