Nothing's changed with my connection apart from I swapped out the router. So in theory microfilters etc shouldn't come into it as I simply swapped the ADSL cable that went into the back of the old router and put it into the new one. [more inside]
My internet browsing is very slow and choppy, and I can't quite figure out why. Speed tests report my connection is average or above average. [more inside]
Four days ago, my Comcast cable internet service began slowing down in the evenings. I know this is normal behavior for cable service, since bandwidth is shared within communities. However, my usual 25 Mbps has slowed to somewhere between 1 and 4 Mbps after 5 PM, with the occasional 20 (very rare). I've seen it as low as 300 Kbps. I checked last night at 2 AM and it was clocking in at 50, which is what I pay for. What can I do? [more inside]
My Wi-Fi is slow, and it seems to be the fault of the router. How can I make it faster? Barring that, is there a better router I could buy? Details inside. [more inside]
How do I fix this fast-then-slow download issue on a Linux machine? It doesn't happen on a Windows machine. TCP tuning nerdery probably required. [more inside]
Do I need to buy a new router? (boring details of really slow wireless performance below the fold) [more inside]
My internet is all wacky: I can torrent at full speed (Around 1.1 mb/s), but both direct downloads and regular http:// web requests are crawling at around 10 to 20 kpbs, even when I'm not torrenting. I've robooted and reconfigured. I suspect Port 80, but I have almost 0 experience in diagnosing and solving network issues. Thoughts?
How do I track how slow my laptop really is going? [more inside]
Help! I upgraded to snow leopard and now my internet is painfully slow. A quick google search shows i'm not the only one, but the only fix I can find (to do with the firewall) doesn't help me as I don't have firewall on. There seems to be no difference between Safari and Firefox. I'm seriously considering using time machine to get back to Leopard days. As an example, pre snow leopard, a speed test measured at 1.83mb/s download, 0.16mb/s upload and 41ms latency, speed test just now says 0.46mb/s, 0.24mb/s upload and 51ms latency. Therefore it looks like my upload speed has improved by my download has taken a dial up style kicking. As I don't upload anything very often, I don't care about any improvement in this area. Can anyone assist? I'm running a January 2009 macbook if that helps.
