I have a relatively new 6.5 quart crock-pot and on the I've been noticing that certain sections heat up much faster than others (it's especially noticeable on the high setting). Is this normal? [more inside]

Looking for soup, stew, or casserole recipes where I can spend ten minutes dumping stuff in the crockpot in the morning and have a full meal ready when I get home. Something like this
is ideal; the only prep is chopping an onion before setting it and forgetting it until dinnertime. No dietary preferences or restrictions, but some vegetables would probably be good. I'm seeing a lot of recipes online, but am having a hard time weeding out which ones are worthwhile, and would appreciate any favorites you care to share.

Slow cookers - Love it, think it is great, but I think I am sort of missing something. My beef roasts in particular haven't been as tender as I think they should be. Please tell me what I'm doing wrong! [more inside]

I'm looking to find a slow cooker (Crock-Pot) currently in production that has the following characteristics:
1. The pot is light weight.
2. The pot has insulated handles.
3. The pot does not have flimsy PTFE non-stick coating. [more inside]

Slow cooker/rice cooker question. I have a standard Cuisinart rice cooker and I've heard it said that you can cook other things in it as well, so my question is, can I use it as a slow cooker, in other words, will any slow cooker recipes turn out just as well in a rice cooker? If so, please share them with me! [more inside]

I have read conflicting reviews about cooking boneless skinless chicken breast in a slow cooker. I will be making apricot chicken in the crock pot tomorrow. The recipe calls for a chicken cut into serving size pieces. I am using boneless skinless chicken breast instead. How long do you usually cook it on low? The recipe says 3-8 hours. Pretty wide berth there. Any tips?
