Sleeping together.... no I mean SLEEPING together ... is it still common among partners living together? What's the common practice/s around the world?

I'm travelling on a short trip to New York, from the UK. The last two times I've travelled to the US (Las Vegas, New Orleans) the first few days of my break have been ruined by jetlag - waking up at 4am and being zombified by early evening - but, this was ok because they were 10 and 14 day holidays. However, my trip to NYC is for 3 days. How can I try and combat this on such a short trip, without losing the couple of days I have in New York?
I'm currently backpacking through Europe and was given an invitation to Oktoberfest for this Friday. I'm really excited about this, but can't seem to find any places to stay that aren't booked or very expensive. I'd like to spend Friday and Saturday night there, giving me the opportunity to see the rest of Munich. What are my options in the area to find a place to sleep? Are there non-hostel options or perhaps one that isn't well known?

I currently sleep haphazard hours, for example from 3am-10am. I'd like to change to going to bed by midnight, but I can't seem to get in the habit -- I always trend back to going to bed well after midnight. My working hours are flexible and my sleeping schedule doesn't overly interfere with my productivity, so I don't have external pressure. Any suggestions, resources, experiences that could get me counting sheep earlier?

Instead of not being able to get up in the mornings, I have a problem with waking up TOO early. Typically I go to sleep around midnight-1:00 am (it's when I start getting tired) but for the last 2 months or so I've been waking up anywhere between 5:00 am to 7ish, and my alarm doesn't go off until 8:15. How can I go about making a radical sleep shift, from going to bed at 6am to going to bed at 12 midnight? I have bipolar disorder which has kept me from working for 3 years, but I have made progress. At my last appointment my shrink said most of my depression and fatigue symptoms were probably due to being out of work and also my bad sleep habits (staying up to 6am watching tv or on the Internet and then sleeping during the day). I now have extra motivation to change since I have discovered I can work up to 16 hours a week for a small but helpful wage (£88.50). How do I go from my nocturnal habits to joining the rest of the world? I have tried going to bed 30 mins earlier but just don't get to sleep any sooner, so the habits are quite ingrained. Any tips for how to change, or advice from people like shift workers who have managed to do this in the past? Thanks.

For the past twenty years or so (I'm 36 now) I have had trouble sleeping. Not really with falling asleep or staying asleep (even though I have had episodes where that was a problem too) but the big problem is I NEVER feel rested when I wake up in the morning. 'Non-restorative sleep' is the term I found after a bit of Googling. Through the years I have tried to tackle this problem in all sorts of ways but haven't gotten very far. About ten years ago I spent a night at a sleep lab but they couldn't find anything wrong with me. Sadly I have gotten so used to the situation that it is not on my mind a lot but lately I've been thinking about what else I could try. [more inside]
