I'm a fairly short woman (5'2"), and my feet dangle from almost every chair (pew, bench, sofa, car seat) I sit in. The dog I'm dog/house-sitting for will not leave the bedroom. Or come out from under the bed. He growls when I go down the hall in which he is residing.
