About a week ago, I saw a very nicely designed site (parallax-y scrolling, a teal color scheme) where a (famous?) Web developer or engineer had collected her/his advice on giving good presentations, including thoughts on slides, handouts, timing, dealing with nerves, the q&a, etc. It was the perfect thing to send to people gearing up for a big talk, particularly in the tech field. It was recently launched, I think just in the last month -- I'd found it because someone on Twitter or Hacker News or somewhere
had just linked to it. It was great and now I can't find it again. Does anyone know what I'm talking about? (Sadly almost all the salient keywords that I can think of for searching for this page are uselessly generic.) Thanks very much.

I'm having trouble getting onto my favorite techie forum site, stackexchange, and this tracking site
comes up in google. In fact, the only reason I even thought to search on down time, as opposed to some myriad of other possible issues causing trouble with a web site (such as browser or home network issues), was I couldn't get google yesterday and, gasp, used Yahoo to lookup something.
What do you know about this site, isitdownrightnow? I see it used once before on AskMetafilter 01-20-2013
Is a tracker of site down time really needed?

I want to start a service that will put real letters into the mail via a website.
I kind of prefer a meaningless name that is simple, unambiguous to spell, and memorable that would grow with the site, if it began to branch out into different areas. And of course, the domain should be open. Any ideas? [more inside]

So my problem is that I sometimes stalk people on facebook - come on, I'm not the only one -.- - but don't want some people/things I checked on facebook to appear in my omnisearch bar in Chrome. So I tried to go to history to delete/clear only facebook data but apparently you can't select all facebook history at once and delete it. It might take a long time if I were to select each individual item to delete.
Is there a simple way to do this?

We want users to be able to search our website for content, but not for them to be able to view search results and content that their usergroup doesn't have access to.
We are changing our website around a bit, and there will be sections of the site that will be available to the general public and then there will be several password-protected sections for different groups (each usergroup has access to a different section). Each usergroup should only see the search results that are related to their access area.
What approaches are there for this kind of setup? I don't think Google Site Search is the solution for this, but I'm not sure. Any ideas?

A while back I remember coming across a really novel vanity site that somebody had come up with. It was a vanity site configured as an Amazon.com products page. It had an identical layout and a place for reviews where former employers and co-workers could write their "product" reviews of this person's work. At the time I came across this site, it was somewhat of a meme and people listed it as a creative way of standing out from the crowd with all of their usually boring sites.
Does anybody remember this or have the link to it?

For a research project, we’re asking ~24 high school and college students to log their experiences with homework by sending us text messages and photos over the course of about two weeks. Is there a site where they can send those messages so that we could see them from a computer? There are particular features we’re seeking... What comes closest to satisfying them? [more inside]

So, I have a little Wordpress site on Media Temple for photos. Nothing else, just photos. No blog posts, no comments, etc. It's occurred to me that it's really a static site. And static sites can be hosted on Amazon S3.
I can handle building the site locally and moving it up to S3. But, I'm wondering about updates. It seems to me that if I build a site locally, publish it to S3, that I can do updates by synching S3 with my local file system. Right?
Has anyone done this? Are there apps specifically geared to publishing and maintaining sites on S3?

Probably a perennial question, but stuff changes. I'm looking for recommendations for a host for a non-pro photo site. I've used Fiickr, SmugMug, and ZenFolio. I'm after a host that allows me to muck about with design, CSS and HTML, etc., but doesn't compel mr to admin servers or
worry about installing security updates remotely.
I can admin a server, but, you know, life's too short. Shared host is probably the best bet, but I'd look at renting a slice of a managed server.
Basically, I just wanna build a site that looks like i want, upload photos, and be done with it.

How do I refresh someone else's IP? I can't load a specific site I usually access every day when I am connected to my home ISP, although I can get to the site when I'm at work and on my smartphone. Absolutely NONE of my browsers can load the site, even those which I've never uised to visit the site before. When I contacted my ISP tonight, the tech said that he could access the same site from his computer, so it doesn't appear to be a DNS issue there. I have no problems loading any other sites on my browsers. What gives? [more inside]
