A milestone birthday is coming up. Would appreciate hive mind advice on celebrating solo. Snowflakes inside. [more inside]
I would like to visit a city in the US that is not commonly thought of as a vacation destination, but still has a lot to offer a tourist. However, as a woman of colour that does not drive and will be travelling alone, I would like a safe and friendly choice. I would like ideas for places with a lot of history and fine dining, which are easy to travel by foot/ public transportation, and friendly towards different looking people. Examples of what I am and am not looking for inside... [more inside]
I scheduled a week off from work in early December and am interested in suggestions for solo travel. I'm in Chicago, and I have enough airline miles for a round trip in the US or Canada, and would be looking to go somewhere for 4 or 5 days. I'm not much of a beach person, and I am most comfortable in an urban setting, though I wouldn't be opposed to a day trip for hiking or some sort of outdoorsy stuff. I'm from Chicago so cold weather doesn't phase me. I love museums, architecture, walking tours, casual (but awesome) restaurants, and bars; I would prefer somewhere where I don't have to rent a car to get around. Thanks in advance for the suggestions!
I have a week vacation for Thanksgiving. Usually I take off for a road-trip, but last year - British Columbia - I found for the first time the thrill of the open road being overtaken by a sense of loneliness and (somewhat) isolation. I'm single and have travelled a lot on my own, but now I kinda don't wanna, but I would like to have an experience with my week off. And it's been a pretty tough year (right?) and I could use a break. How do single people navigate this? [more inside]
Need travel advice. Please give suggestions on the best way to travel around Europe when you are single, young professional, adventurous, don't want to travel with your close friends (already did that) but don't want to travel alone. [more inside]

I'm organising the hiring of a car for myself and 2 other people who are a couple. I'll be paying for the car upfront - should I ask them for half of the amount or two-thirds? [more inside]
Lost in Ireland: I'm a thirtysomething single woman who would like to spend some time in Ireland, anywhere from 2 to 5 weeks, probably in March or April. What to do? [more inside]

Does anyone have any recommendations of guided/escorted tour companies that run tours geared towards women? I'm looking to go on vacation, and I'll be by myself. I'd prefer to travel in a group so I have people to talk to, and I don't want to be on a bus with 19 year old college students or 55 year old couples. The tours geared for singles look a little dodgy. [more inside]
Hi folks, I love to travel but unfortunately all the vacation deals (hotel and airfare) seem to be based on traveling for 2. Are there any special sites or methods I should look into that don't rely on traveling with someone else? I have no problem traveling alone and am open to going to almost anywhere (provided the price is right.) Please stop punishing me for being single.
