I am trying to find information about a famous singer- not sure of the spelling- Gali Gerci or Galli Gerchi. My m-i- l said she was famous in England (~ mid 1930's) and she recalls her father getting her mother a record of her singing Peer Gynt's "Solveig's Song". Can anyone help- at least w/ the correct spelling?

I like singers with strange voices. I don't like novelty songs (e.g. Betty Boop) and I don't like "songs" that are so avant-garde that they're basically noise (e.g. someone screaming into a microphone). After following the invaluable advice in the AMF thread on internet radio, I discovered Whole Wheat Radio, and there was introduced to an excellent singer-songwriter named Greg Trooper. He's got about six albums in print in one form or another. Since I've found the taste of the All Music Guide reviewers to be...unreliable, is there anyone familiar with Mr. Trooper's work who can suggest where to begin?
