There is only one website that sells a sheet set I really want, and it only ships to Singapore. I emailed them; they cannot get stuff shipped to the United States. There are a million websites that help people ship stuff from US websites to Singapore, but none I can find that ship stuff from Singapore to the United States. There has got to be a way for me to do this. How do I do this? [more inside]

My wife, two daughters and I are hoping to fly to Singapore in January next year to visit some friends. We are not regular airline passengers, and I am wondering how far in advance I should book the flights in order to secure the best deal? Is there an optimum season or distance from the departure date to book? We will be flying out of Melbourne.

My Dad just got "home" from the hospital in Singapore ("home" in quotes, because he's only there for a temporary assignment). He is completely bedridden, and probably should have stayed at the hospital but refused. I'd like to send him a care package of sorts - snacky food, beer, maybe even some movies to watch or something, but I don't know how to go about doing that (I'm in the USA). I would mail something from here, but he's going to be on a plane back to the states as soon as he can reasonably lay on a plane, and I don't know if it would be there in time. What are my options?

I have two fantastic work from home jobs that involve frequent international travel. Both of my employers are U.S. companies and I am a U.S. citizen. I want to continue working, but relocate my base to Asia for a year or two. I'd prefer to live in: Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Japan or Bangkok, but am open to other options. I do not want to get a local job, but to keep my current gigs. So, the question is: how can I get permission to stay without a local job? I have plenty of money coming in, but I won't be able to rent an apartment on a tourist visa. What are my visa/immigration options? Any advice for the above listed destinations or other fine cities in Asia, would be much appreciated. I have more than a decade of long-term travel experience in Asia and speak Japanese and basic Vietnamese, FWIW.

Traveling for work later this week to Singapore with a colleague. We both enjoy interesting bars. Any particularly odd sights to see? We have a couple mostly-open days to recover from the 12 hours in coach. What will impress two business travelers whose previous travel focuses around Northern Europe and the USA? [more inside]

Going to a conference Sept 12-13, to be held at the Orchard Hotel Singapore (442 Orchard Road).
At around 210 Singapore dollars + taxes, I can
afford it, but would also be happier with somewhere a bit less expensive.
If you know of somewhere within walking distance, that isn't too noisy, and is a bit cheaper, could you tell me?

I collaborate remotely with a technical team who are based in Singapore; I am based in North America.
The Singapore staff all speak English as their native language (it's not a second or foreign language). However, making simple requests or explaining is usually excruciatingly hard.
Any reasons why this might be so?
Simple change requests within a document are ignored, often repeatedly. When collaborating on some simple database stuff, simple processes are ignored in favour of more complicated (but easier) processes.
We're working folks who are well-educated, and have a great work environment. They're technical, but also creatives as well (so I don't think it is a left brain/right brain conflict).
I'm wondering if there is some sort of cultural code to crack.

The Aseno family is planning to go to Singapore few days after this year's Eid (end of Ramadan). We know in other muslim countries, Eid celebration can last up for up to a week afterwards. Businesses (read: attractions and great food joints) usually take long vacations before they open again on regular hours. We're not planning to go touristy, but instead want to absorb local life style, eat and go where locals go. So, citizens of Metafilter, is it wise to travel to Singapore close to Eid, given our objectives, or should we wait another week or two until it's normal again? Or, if I may switch my perspective, are there anything that is worth traveling to Singapore during/near Eid?

My Dad lives in Singapore, and I'll be visiting him for two weeks this summer. He'll be pretty busy with work during the week, and I'm trying to plan one or two day trips (spending one night somewhere else is fine, but no more than that). Where can I go that is a) safe to travel alone to (I'm an upper-20s female)? and b) relatively cheap (I'm thinking probably a bus, train, or boat ride to somewhere in Indonesia or Malaysia)?

Where in south east Asia can 16 adults - half 20s, half 40s - have a good time for a week. Requirements: beach and relaxation for all, nightclubs and shopping for some. Not too overblown but not too quiet and within a day's easy travel of a main airport. Hotel / resort / villa recommendations welcome. Budget up to US/Aus $70 per person per night. [more inside]

Or, since we're four people who will be going there, would it be cheaper to just take a cab from the airport?
