What should my husband and I absolutely not miss when we are in Oslo in a couple of weeks' time? We are staying three nights in the city: arriving Wednesday 12th August in the early evening and leaving Saturday 15th early afternoon. However, we have a day ticket to the Oya Festival on the Friday (the festival site does not open til 1pm though), so in terms of actual sightseeing time we have one evening, one whole day and a couple of half-days. I'm planning to take a solo vacation the first week of August, and would like to go on an all-inclusive organized tour. I enjoy learning and trying new things and would really like the tour to be friendly/sociable. Cheaper is better (total budget: under $1000). I'm in good shape but am a city girl and not very into nature. I'll be leaving from Washington, DC. Where should I go? What should I do? What tours do you recommend? [more inside]
This December I'm going to Shanghai and possibly Seoul. I'd love your tips for museums, restaurants, hotels, and more! [more inside]
Sooooo... my parents will visiting loverly Chicago... unfortunately, I just noticed that they won't fly in May 17th, but APRIL 17th. In two days. I'm a dumb. Anyway, I need some advice on what we should check out while they're here. I have a couple ideas, but I haven't done much of Chicago's touristy stuff since I moved in several years ago. What are some big obvious things that are actually worth the hype? Any hidden gems you like? They'll be staying downtown, but we'll have cars available so travel isn't a problem. I have mobility issues, so bonus if it's sitting down/limited standing.
I'm going to be in Los Angeles from June 6 to June 11. I'll be hiring a car to get around L.A. - though we'll mostly be sticking to Central LA and Santa Monica over that weekend (7/8 June). I've been to L.A. before and done most of the touristy things - relying on both local buses and hop on/hop off tourist buses. Because I'll have a car this time, I was wondering what recommendations people have for things to see and places to go that are tricky to get to without a car. Anything within a couple of hours drive of Los Angeles. Thanks.
Touristing in NYC this weekend: what's changed since 2010??? [more inside]
In July I'm flying into Mexico City for my friend's wedding in San Miguel de Allende. I have two days (or so, it's pretty flexible) to get from the airport in FD to SMdA, can you help me figure out the best route and/or means of transportation? And also what I should do for fun and/or adventure with the extra day or so I have to explore the area? [more inside]
I'm arriving at Edinburgh airport at 7.45am on a weekday, and taking a train from Edinburgh Waverley at 1.30pm on the same day. What can I do or see in Edinburgh (including getting breakfast somewhere) and ensure I catch my train at 1.30pm? More details inside. [more inside]
I'm going to be going to Pittsburgh to visit a friend this weekend. She works until 8:30 pm, however, so I'll be left to my own devices for the afternoons and early evenings. I'm totally cool with that, and I look forward to exploring on my own. But I need a place to start! Can you help? [more inside]

My 50 year old uncle is visiting San Fran this Thursday for the first time. I am picking him up at SFO at 11 and we want to be back to Novato by about 330 to beat (most of) the traffic. On the way out we will certainly go up to the Marin Headlands, and he is a big seafood guy so I am guessing we will catch lunch down near the Wharf or maybe at the Cliff House. Obviously we don't have much time, so what recommendations do you all have for a few cool things to see in the city on the way out? I think we'll do Lombard, but otherwise I'm not terribly interested in super-touristy stuff. Maybe some historic spots?
I've got a 7-hour stopover in Zurich on September 12, so I'm planning to leave the airport to see a bit of the city. Just one thing: I have no idea what to see or do! Please help me out. [more inside]
Can you help me get the most out of my upcoming trip to New York City, Italy, Greece and Zurich, Switzerland? [more inside]
