This December I'm going to Shanghai and possibly Seoul. I'd love your tips for museums, restaurants, hotels, and more! [more inside]
For instance, my SO really wants to find a place that serves gooseneck barnacle like they did here and explore spots like the abandoned Upper Salmonberry River Railway. We wanted to see sloths, but it was booked. We know these kind of unique local gems are coveted, but does anyone mind sharing their favorite off-the-beaten path activities in PDX? [more inside]
Sooooo... my parents will visiting loverly Chicago... unfortunately, I just noticed that they won't fly in May 17th, but APRIL 17th. In two days. I'm a dumb. Anyway, I need some advice on what we should check out while they're here. I have a couple ideas, but I haven't done much of Chicago's touristy stuff since I moved in several years ago. What are some big obvious things that are actually worth the hype? Any hidden gems you like? They'll be staying downtown, but we'll have cars available so travel isn't a problem. I have mobility issues, so bonus if it's sitting down/limited standing.
A friend's mother is coming to town and we're trying to brain storm some beautiful places to take her. The thing is she has limited mobility and tends to get around in a wheel chair. When I think of places to take people it usually involves a hike to something like the Sutro Baths or China Beach, etc, etc. Would love to hear some thoughts!
I'm going to be in Los Angeles from June 6 to June 11. I'll be hiring a car to get around L.A. - though we'll mostly be sticking to Central LA and Santa Monica over that weekend (7/8 June). I've been to L.A. before and done most of the touristy things - relying on both local buses and hop on/hop off tourist buses. Because I'll have a car this time, I was wondering what recommendations people have for things to see and places to go that are tricky to get to without a car. Anything within a couple of hours drive of Los Angeles. Thanks.
I'm headed to the UK for the first time, and would like to do some sightseeing related to William Blake. Is there anything worth seeing? I've haven't found anything apart from Poet's Corner and this very dodgy seeming walking tour. Alternatively, can anybody advise me as to which museums in the UK are best for viewing Blake's original prints?

What are the most fun things to do in Melbourne on holiday? I've got 4 days as a solo female traveller in my 30s. I'm not into footy but open to shopping, good places to eat (cheaply), cultural things and tourist attractions. Inspire me!
I'm going to SF with my partner for our first wedding anniversary - yay! We've been before and have seen some of the sights (list after the break), but are looking for things we might have missed, awesome places we haven't eaten at, great things we haven't seen, etc, so we can make the most of it. Only limiting factor: neither of us drive. [more inside]
I'm probably going to Japan at the end of July for roughly one week. What MUST I see or do in that one week? [more inside]
We're staying for four nights in Barcelona in mid September. First visit for both of us. Really would appreciate hotel/B&B recommendations, and of course what sights and restaurants the hive mind recommends.

On Tuesday I'm going to find myself with five or six spare hours as I pass through Los Angeles. I haven't really seen L.A. before, so what should I do? What should I see? Where should I eat?
For what it's worth, my hotel will be near LAX on Highway 1.

GlasgowFilter: I am going to that fine city in a couple of days for my sister's wedding. Looking for any good book/record/vintage shops in town, as well as any not to be missed modern architecture (outside of Charles Rennie Mac). Ta much.
Recommendations of what to see/do when visiting Washington D.C.? We're going next week, and have a list of a few touristy spots to visit, but I'd like to see what Mefites recommend. Locals advice also highly appreciated, i.e. dance clubs and restaurants to visit. Finally, all over the web it says you must arrange a White House tour with one of your congressional representatives. We can't do that (group of two), someone said we can join a tour at a kiosk. Anyone agree with this? Please be kind if the question has been posted before, I searched.
I have two and a half days in London at the end of May. What are must-sees? Also, anyone want to meet a group of travelling American bloggers at a pub for a drink the night of May 29?
