Find me a sandbox to dig in

I love Sid Meier's Pirates! I loved the original back in the '80s, and I love the remake even more. What other games might I love? I like sandbox games in general, but this one has a lot of action and adventure, and the historical setting is very atmospheric. The violence is minimized/stylized (I'm not interested in GTA-type gangbanging), but there are plenty of choices on how to play and what to do.

I find myself wishing there was a game where I could be an explorer (a remake of Seven Cities of Gold!) or a knight or something. No RTS or God games.

I haven't been up on gaming in about 20 years, though I've played various Dooms and Quakes and stuff. I spent a long time having only Macs, which didn't help. Now I have a netbook, which means I can run older PC games pretty well. New, not so much. I don't care about vintage. Story is not what I'm looking for (I started Deus Ex once, but didn't feel like I could give it its due). Free play, like the classic games I've already mentioned, plus maybe Elite (but faster paced) and Wasteland (though that gets a little too RPG-y). I've tried just playing the old games emulated, but they don't always work too well, and after seeing how great the Pirates! remake came out, I want more like this...

What are the implications of duplicate SID's on a Windows Server 2003 network?

What are the implications of having duplicate SID numbers on a Windows Server 2003 network? I have just recently discovered that we have a number of virtual machines running on our network that have duplicate SID numbers, because they were cloned from the same master images which were not prepared with sysprep. Geh. Linux-specialist-coworker-who-also-reads-AskMe, I curse at thee!

There are three "sets" of matched SID's each containing several machines running XP, Server 2003 and Server 2000. Most terrifyingly, the Server 2003 group contains all of our domain controllers. All the images are running on Xen.

Alright, so I gather this is not a great situation. What I would like to do is to just run NewSID on each machine in turn and then do some rolling restarts. However, I'm not sure if there are any further problems that I need to address. So, prevalent questions:

1) What are the implications of having this set up. What are the implications of using NewSID?

2) Will file or system permissions be affected somehow by changing the SID? The Windows 2000 machines are hosting a legacy application that is called by one of our websites. Some of the XP machines are hosting SQL Server 2005 Express instances. The 2003 group machines are all DC's, including all the FSMO roles and global catalog. They are all pretty important machines and need to keep running as normal.

3) How bad is this? Can I afford to space out my changes or is it important that I push to get this done quickly? Since these are production machines, slow and lots of research is my preferred plan when making changes like this.

Thanks, your advice is appreciated.

Registry edit that can call an individual user's SID in Windows?

How do I change a registry value that is user-specific? The location is different on every computer, due to the use of the SID in H_Key Users. Look inside for boring specifics. Here's what I'm working on, and I'm surprised it takes this much effort to accomplish. We're rolling out Office 2007. What we've decided to do is use the Quick Access Toolbar as a small substitute for simple commands that our users would not like to have to hunt down. That part's figured out.

What's stumped me is a registry edit that I'd like to make. Office 2007 has an option that will put the Quick Access Toolbar beneath the ribbon. I tried to make this option change from the Office Customization Tool, but it doesn't list it as an option.

What I need to do is change the value of:
HKU\(user's SID)\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Common\Toolbars\Word\QuickAccessToolbarStyle

The problem is, each user's SID is different, and I can't find an environment variable for the SID so that every user's computer would modify that registry key.

I've written a batch file that can call the SID and manually change it, but I'd like to integrate it into the OCT setup so the end user doesn't have to run the batch file to set the option.

Any ideas?

More 8-bit music?

Request for music recommendations! I'm looking for more music similar to Beck's Hell Yes EP and bands like Treewave and old school Nintendo music, but not campy "hey, I sampled a video game!" type stuff like Richard D. James's Powerpill Pacman. You know, stuff that's true to the SID chip and isn't kitschy and maybe has some vocals. Whacha got?
