Often when I am feeling unwell due to eating something bad, I'll think back over what I've eaten, and one particular item will stick out and make me feel queasy. Is there any science or fact to this?
I get colds a lot. How can I stop getting them so frequently? Also, how can I make the duration of them shorter? [more inside]
I'm a music teacher and I also have severe upper respiratory allergies. I try everything I can to work on them however, I feel some parents are not holding their end of the bargain. They tend to bring their seemingly healthy child into a lesson when they're actually sick. I keep getting ill as a result and as a professional singer, I can't afford to get sick. I want to make a notice detailing what is sick before their child runs into a lesson. How should I address this issue? [more inside]
My favorite cousin is in a pretty serious health battle. She's vitally important to me, to my wife, and to my kid (her godson). We've always seen her at least monthly and called her every week or so. But now she's going through the fight of her life and she's not even always telling us when she's been hospitalized or is otherwise struggling. We want to find a way to step up our support for her without being intrusive or making any grim assumptions about her prognosis. How do we do that? [more inside]
Is there somehow less of a problem with Bacillus cereus in Japanese rice? I often see remarks like this one about not refrigerating onigiri, and about leaving rice in the rice cooker for hours if not days and continuing to eat it. The worst food poisoning I have ever had was from B. cereus, so I am hypersensitive to rice preparation and storage. [more inside]
My long-term, long-distance girlfriend and I occasionally don't get to see each other as planned. Today was one of those times, and her response has me thinking that she might be happier if we weren't together. How do I work out how to proceed from here? [more inside]

I have no other cold symptoms, but my phlegm factory won't stop cranking out this gunk that coats my throat and gives me a terrible sore throat every night. But: no coughing, no fever, no sneezing . . . I'm totally fine except for this crud oozing into my throat. First of all: eew! Second, why is this happening without any other symptoms, and how do I stop it? (Yep, I'm calling the doc tomorrow, but today is Sunday, so I thought I'd ask in the meantime.)
It looks like I'll be discharged from my week-long stay in the hospital tomorrow. (Fingers crossed, knock on wood.) I've been treated for double pneumonia, chronic migraine, trigeminal neuralgia breakthrough pain, and severe constipation. This is the longest I've ever been hospitalized. I'm weak as a day old kitten. Still having pain from the migraine and TN. Still having difficulty pooping. Still short of breath. But they say I'm better enough to go home. Give me your best hacks, skills, and advice for transitioning home and having an easy recovery. [more inside]

I have a titanium plate that was used to fix a radial fracture about a year and a half ago. I've been experiencing symptoms that include episodes of extreme fatigue, as well as sore throat and general sick feeling for the past 6 months or so. Before that I would experience this sick feeling minimally starting shortly after the plate was surgically implanted in my arm. The plate is now useless and can be removed, I was wondering if anyone had ever experienced a similar reaction? All my other blood/urine test show that I should be in perfect health. Thanks for any help! Desperately trying to get to the bottom of this mystery!
I moved to San Francisco 7-8 months ago. Ever since then I have found myself getting sick unusually easily. The illnesses I get tend to have the same set of symptoms: heightened temperature/fever, lack of energy, sniffles, sneezing and this kind of warm sick feeling in my body. They tend to be made worse by stress and are often triggered by working hard on things. (Which is really unfortunate because I want to be working a lot harder on my projects than I am right now!) If you've got any wild guess as to what might be going on, please share it! [more inside]
My friends just had the worst week of their lives and they are now separated from their 3yo son by a hospital and over a thousand miles. What are some ways he can show them love while they're apart? [more inside]
When I start to feel a cold coming on, the last thing I want to do is spend time and energy trying to figure out the best treatment approach. I am seeking a guide that will help me identify and self-treat common/mild illnesses (both attacking the root cause and alleviating symptoms) as well as indicate when it would be wise to see a doctor. I would prefer a printout rather than an interactive tool like WebMD.
I am 15 weeks pregnant with awful, constant 'morning' sickness. I'm doing what I can to manage it (including taking medication) but it looks like it's going to be around for a while. So what I'm looking for is suggestions on how to deal with the psychological impact it's having on me, and the limitations it's putting on my life, because the thought of another week/month/trimester of being this ill is really getting me down. [more inside]
So what's it like to be the recipient of an organ transplant and having to deal with immunosuppressant drugs? How does your life change? How often do you have to take your drugs? What are the weird details of daily life that outsiders don't know about? Are there any insurance hassles? I have a fair idea of what it's like to be diabetic because of coworkers who have this condition but I don't know anything about the life of organ transplant recipients and I'd like to know more. Any help you could provide would be deeply appreciated.

Seems likely I have strep throat. I went to the doctor and they did rapid testing but it came back negative, now they're making a culture to make sure. This will take two days, but since I have all the symptoms of strep (and lack many of tonsillitis), I'd be willing to guess I have strep throat. They haven't put me on antibiotics yet, so it looks like I'm staying sick for a while. What can I eat to keep myself healthy and happy until I know more? [more inside]

I'm a supervisor, and one of my staff was out sick all last week with the flu. This week she is back, but coughing, hacking and sneezing loudly. When asked about it, she stated that she had allergies. I don't want her to infect the office, but am not sure how to pursue the conversation with her. Help? [more inside]
My sweet boyfriend's dearest friend has been diagnosed with Hodgikn's Lymphoma. Last time we saw him he was complaining about a lump in this throat, and saying they didn't know what it was but not to worry, he was probably just getting over an infection. Typical blase doctors, oh yeah forgot to mention, he is five years into a ten year prison sentence for some youthful foolishness. [more inside]

What is this sickness called? When I get tired and fatigue accumulates over time, I get sick. I have been stressed out a little bit and haven't been sleeping enough for a past week, so I'm sick as I'm posting this... I get a headache, my all body aches, especially lower back and pelvic area, but from head to toe. If it's severe, I would get a diarrhea or throw up. Even if it's warm, I get a chill and sometimes cold sweat. My face feels hot but in fact I don't have a fever. This lasts for about a day, and next day when I wake up I'm okay except I feel a little shaky. I've had this for about 6 times. I just don't know what this is called. [more inside]
