Should you give a more expensive baby shower gift if you know you are 'richer' than the recipient? Maybe you are not necessarily rich, but the giftee/person having the baby is very poor; in this case, do you gift based on your income disparity? [more inside]
Help me think of a not-too-expensive gift (under $50) to take to a friend's baby shower. They have a registry but I'd rather get them something fun that they weren't expecting. [more inside]
I came down with a cold and missed my friend's baby shower. I'd like to get them a nice gift, maybe around $50-100, but their registry only has burp cloths left. I know that they already have a car seat and baby monitor and that they will be using cloth diapers. Parents: what items/services in that price range have you found to be really useful?
Having my first kid. Need to get stuff. Looking for for some tips! [more inside]
I am looking for ideas for a (fun!) baby shower game for my boss who is expecting. The shower is happening in a restaurant with a small group of co-workers so it can't be too involved or outlandish. There's also that whole I-work-with-you atmosphere that makes things that I would normally think of for friends seem strange. Would be thrilled to see if anyone has suggestions. Thanks in advance.
My brother's wife is due to have a baby boy sometime this month. I will be an uncle for the first time. The baby shower is taking place this upcoming Sunday. My girlfriend since May of last year is not a big fan of my brother. She hasn't even met him to begin with. She felt that he flaked out on me during my college graduation and birthday last year. Some friends are giving our friend a little baby shower...online. She recently moved cross country, and her friends and family are scattered around the country. I am planning to set up a group Skype so people can see her open the presents we send. I am thinking she can take us on a tour of the new house/baby's room, but is there anything...showery we can do? I could send her some decorations, maybe order for cupcakes to be delivered? Some easy little games like guess how big around she is (do pregnant moms not like that one?) We aren't expecting a real party, but seems like something more than opening presents would be nice. [more inside]
Friends of mine will be new parents! I want to get them a sweet-ass gift. They have a wish list but say they welcome any other gifts not on it if especially good. Veteran parents, what did you wish you had when your baby came along? [more inside]
I don't want to register for the upcoming birth of my child. Nothing against people who do it, but (1) I am a minimalist; (2) I enjoyed the wedding gifts I got that didn't come from my registry (heartfelt, unique, awesome); and (3) what I do need is on the more expensive side (so I can either load up the registry with crap I don't want or come off looking greedy). Am I making a big mistake? [more inside]
Baby Shower Etiquette: My bestie is throwing me a baby shower at her Aunt's house. It is a tiny event of only 8 people- all adults (Our Moms, mother in laws, my sister in law & bestie's Aunt). I didn't really expect anyone to throw me a shower, so I am super grateful the she and her Aunt would take this on! My Mother in law sent me an email last night asking if my 8 y/o niece was invited... [more inside]

Baby shower help please? I'm throwing a baby shower for my sister-in-law in a couple weeks. It's going to be a co-ed Halloween party basically, but also there will be baby presents. If my wife hosts a baby shower, fairly large (30+ people) for her friend (with all the expense, labour and effort that requires) would she still be expected to give a present to her friend on top of this?
My wife is hosting a baby shower for a mother-to-be that wants 50 people to be invited (she's even providing the list). But I have heard that here in Toronto, you need to have a permit for private gatherings of more than 25 where alcohol will be served. We can't find any detailed information on this though. Anyone know where to look, or know the answer?
