The comments in this thread have inspired me to go ahead and ask: where can I find jeans that fit and don't stretch out? Hit me with your best pants. [more inside]
I know there are hundreds of these, but none that address my rather geeky, very special seattle snowflake of a boyfriend. Details below. [more inside]
I feel great gift givers are not always the ones who devote the most time or money to this art - so what are their secrets? I'm happy to consider wisdom derived from science, literature or anecdote. Likewise I am interested in advice centred on observation, triage, shopping, timing, wrapping and so on. What makes a ninja gift giver?
Between a recent fire at my apartment and a mix-up with the cleaning crew, all of my clothes are now gone except a few things I picked up at Target with a giftcard from a friend. Another friend was amazingly generous enough to send me $200 to help rebuild my wardrobe, and I am trying to figure out the most satisfying way to do so. [more inside]
I made my Christmas gift list early, and I'm looking for a way to watch for sales on this specific list of items between now and early December without having to check every sale flyer for every possible store every week. Does this exist as a web service or an app? [more inside]
Can you still do a week's food shopping in one go? If you have moved to going to the grocery store more than once a week to buy things to cook that day or the next few days, what do you typically run out of, or is it more of an impulse buy? If you were able to have appliances or storage to help you keep food fresh or remember to use what you bought, what would you consider getting? Assume a typical English diet: meat, potatoes, greens, bread, tea, coffee, milk etc. [more inside]
I need sparkly, dangly statement earrings with posts made of sterling silver, gold-plated silver, or gold. Where can I find them for <$100/pair? [more inside]
I'm a guy in Los Angeles. I need some sexy, funky, S&M/leather-friendly, ankle-height black boots for rocking out on go-go platforms, cruising around at Burning Man, and generally pairing up with scandalous outfits at club nights. My budget could be up to $350 for the right pair. In-store only, because I'd really like to try them on. Where shall I go?
I have problems with shopping compulsively. I want to stop so I can work on paying down debt, and the feelings of guilt and deception when it comes to hiding things. But I haven't found a way that sticks. Does anyone have any experience with beating addictions on a day to day basis? Or in talking yourself out of cravings? [more inside]
I'm shopping for the best. leggings. ever. Help me find them? [more inside]
I am going into San Fransisco for tomorrow for a last day in the US- only I don't know the area and where anything is. Someone gave me a mildly large pile of money to spend with the idea that I need to spend all of it- HALP. [more inside]
I was hoping to find something like this but less expensive and maybe more authentic (?) to Japanese culture, somewhere online. [more inside]
Where (besides Manic Panic, ugh) can I buy funky, semi-permanent hair dyes in Los Angeles? Preferably today? [more inside]
My dad passed away suddenly in July after slowly declining for about a year. He had a specific request that we were unable to fulfill in time and we are trying to make that right. I have a very quick stop to make in Tokyo where I can get these items, but I need recommendations on hotels and the best department stores. [more inside]
While most things are going very well, my pregnant wife's back has really been hurting and her main relief has been an electric heating pad. However the heating pad is only 12in x 24in. I am hunting for a bigger heating pad if possible. Any help appreciated.
Where are the best affordable places for a genderqueer person to shop in Seattle? [more inside]
So the man in my life is a larger-sized fella. He usually shops at "Big and Tall" stores. I'm shopping for his birthday next month and it seems like there are not many stylish options available either on the web or in local shops. Any suggestions for affordable items (under $60) that look pseudo-hipstery-scifi nerdy for big men in or around Lansing? If there's a good shop in Detroit, I could drive there or similar distance too.
Let's say, hypothetically, you were tasked by your boss with the urgent job of sourcing a 9'x12' white shag carpet as similar as possible to this one, and you absolutely needed it to arrive in Cambridge, MA within two or three business days. How would you go about this? [more inside]
ClothingFilter: Where on Earth do men with "athletic builds" (big shoulders/chest; smaller waist relative to other proportions) reliably shop for fashionable, casual upper-body clothing? What style blogs and resources exist for dudes like myself? I am pretty sick of having to try on a zillion things to little success at most stores or to rely exclusively on very large thrift stores for finding something by random chance ... and "Big and Tall" stores are usually much too big?! [more inside]
I want to start listening to audiobooks on long hikes and drives. Specifically I'd like to start with an unabridged "Lord of the Rings," but eventually others. How do I obtain them as plain mp3s? [more inside]
I'm off on a hot-climate-followed-by-cool-climate holiday, and am looking for the perfect pair of women's shoes to sightsee in. I'm also taking hiking boots and sandals, but I'd like an in-between pair for all the rest. Requirements: COMFORTABLE, vegan, rain-resistant (or at least, won't totally dissolve at the sight of a puddle), breathable (for the hot days), plain (to visit mid-range restaurants with a dress). For bonus points: will ship to the Antipodes without costing more than my airfare.
I'm thinking of taking a bread maker as a gift for a family that I'll be visiting in Mumbai, India. What potential problems might I be overlooking? [more inside]
While straightening my apartment last week I came across a cute headband. I've had it since I was five (haven't worn headbands since I was, oh, probably about six) but have held onto it because I like it. Anyway, for the last few days I've been thinking: perhaps I would like to wear headbands? I don't know, can you help me find cool head bands? Let's find out. [more inside]
What is the fastest way of buying a car in New York city? What should I keep in mind? How can I be super-productive and not lose money within this transaction? [more inside]
We are moving to New Jersey on the Bloomfield / Montclair border. I know nothing about the neighborhoods except their reputations. Help me hit the ground running with things I should know, especially best coffee, food, shopping, parks, health services, business services and other things that wikipedia has left out. Thanks! I've had this little home decor project idea floating around in my head for ages and I need a specific kind of picture frame to pull it off. One of those family collage frame type dealies that everybody's grandma has in the den. But they seem to have dropped out of fashion and I haven't been able to find one anywhere over the course of numerous googlings for the past year and a half. [more inside]
So I'm just starting Yoga and I have a problem: I'm too tall for standard mats. I'm 6'4" (76 inches, 193 cm). How do I find a long mat that I know is good quality? And how long is long enough, anyway? [more inside]
I need to buy a new riding mower. What am I going to need to be looking for when comparing models? What's good and what's bad these days? [more inside]
Heading to Staunton, VA for a little anniversary getaway/Shakespeare nerd-fest in a few weeks. Aside from a show and tour at the reconstructed Blackfriars (which I am BEYOND excited about), what should we not miss? [more inside]
By mistake my company has booked me double baggage allowance for my flight to Dublin for a conference, so I have a capacity of 46kg. I live in London. What kind of heavy yet-hard-to-get in the UK thing should I buy to make the most of this? My only thought was a case of whisky or possibly a very large amount of Guinness. I only have one free morning (Thursday), which is also the day I fly out. Is there anything I'm not thinking of?
So this website sells these awesome Game of Thrones House Martell high-top sneakers. Unfortunately they don't have them in my size (US Men's 13). I cried for a bit, and now I'm asking: Where can I find high-tops in a similar golden-orange color? I really love it!
I have to go to a family party in two weeks and I have a wardrobe full of rags. All my impossibly tall, willowy and well-dressed cousins will be there and for once I'd like to not feel like post-midnight Cinderella. Can you give me suggestions for styles that would suit me and also not cost one million pounds? Shops, blogs, personal anecdotes of outfits you have rocked...anything. Fashion-frustrating snowflakes within. [more inside]
I want something that won't stretch out of shape within half a dozen washes, that isn't floral, pastel, see-through or low-cut. Surely this must be possible? [more inside]
A few friends of mine have bought cheap, giant suitcases from novelty shops and souvenir shops in NYC. Since I'm halfway across the country, I'm looking for something similar that I can buy on the internet. Workable dimensions are around 32 x 25 x 10 inches - really freakin' big. But, amazon and ebay and the like are failing me. Can you help?
Where (if anywhere) can I go in Manhattan to browse a reasonably large selection of high-quality men's dress shoes and try them on in different sizes without needing to deal with any salespeople? A warehouse with a bench would be fine. I am a guy with large but not gargantuan feet if that matters. Thanks.
Can't get this "modern, adult version of the trapperkeeper" out of my head, but it's too expensive! [more inside]

Are Keen Newports good shoes for a long trip to Disney World in August? If not, what beats them? I mean, can I simply wear my running shoes?
Do you try on footwear like this with or without socks?
Do you allow extra room on the assumption that your feet will swell in the steam heat? [more inside]
I'll be heading to Chicago this weekend for a vacationy weekend in a new city. I've got an armload of plans for various things to see and do (including the Wax Trax popup shop), but I also wouldn't mind doing some shopping while I'm down there. Suggestions for an alt-culture excursion? [more inside]
I recently moved into an eco-friendly apartment building, and my unit has this high-efficiency Whirlpool washer. I foolishly did not consider how having this type of washer would impact my lifestyle- namely, that there is no way it can accommodate my full-size comforter. I really do not want to drive down to the laundromat every time I have to wash my comforter. If you have a HE washer, how to do work around this issue? Are there thinner, more heat-insulating comforters out there? [more inside]
I have about $300-400 to spend on a new acoustic guitar that will be gifted to someone who is a classically-trained pianist but would be a beginner on this particular instrument, someone who wants to play music in the vein of Cat Stevens (i.e., pop-folk). There are simply so many options out there that I thought I would ask this site for advice. [more inside]
FashionPhillyFilter: I have had a borderline-apocalyptic time trying to find a suit/sports jacket that fits in Philadelphia. I am a tall-but-not-notably so (6'0") dude who is built like a [big football guy term here], but with a smaller waist & bottom half to mis-match my enormous breastplate/shoulders. (My friend says "you are an inverse triangle"). Attendants at the stores I have gone to have been completely flummoxed by my proportions, which end up with either the jacket not fitting over my chest or there being a puffy cloud of fabric on the bottom. It's at the point where I'm getting recommendations for $1895 (low estimate I was given???)+ tailor-made jackets as the only solution for my build, which I am trying to avoid based on my budget (doctoral student on stipend). Surely there are... some stores that have tailorable off-the-rack things that might fit? Any suggestions as to stores that have fashionable, comfortable clothing for larger-built gentleman, especially in distance of Philadelphia? [more inside]
I need new clothes, and I would like, for once, clothes that look good. Significant bonus points if they signal modesty and I can do some physical work in them. [more inside]
Help! Where can I buy women's size 5 hiking boots in Los Angeles today? For some reason it's really hard to find shoes in my size, let alone shoes that are reasonably priced and for a specific purpose without ordering them online. Unfortunately, the window for ordering online has passed. Walking shoes will do as long as my size is in stock. Where can I go shopping tonight or tomorrow night and know they'll have something in my size? Small size shoe wearers, WHERE DO YOU SHOP? (As always, cheaper is better)
AmsterdamFilter: can you recommend (1) a good, fast dry cleaner and (2) a reliable, not too expensive menswear store in Centrum or the Oosterparkbuurt? Reason: pigeon attack. [more inside]
I have a day to do shop for petite sized clothes and shoes in London. I need everything from t-shirts to dresses. Good quality clothes preferred, but getting some items at Topshop and the like would be fine. Where should I go?

Which clothing stores in NYC have good casual/business casual clothes for larger men? My boyfriend and I are going clothes shopping this coming Saturday to prepare for an upcoming trip. He has a suit, but other than that, all his clothes are jeans and tees. For this trip, we are looking for: casual button down shirts (oxfords or plaids), non-jeans/non-khaki trousers, a sport coat or blazer, and some shoes that fall in between the New Balance sneakers he usually wears and the nice black shoes he wears with his suit. Sizes and price range below the cut. [more inside]
Please tell me about your experience with a Nordstrom's shopper and if their services would be right for my situation. [more inside]
A friend is going on a year-long, multi-continent backpacking adventure. She wants a sturdy travel cover that will take the abuse from buses/baggage handlers/planes instead of her pack, like this--except hopefully sturdier. Any recommendations?
