Which clothing stores in NYC have good casual/business casual clothes for larger men? My boyfriend and I are going clothes shopping this coming Saturday to prepare for an upcoming trip. He has a suit, but other than that, all his clothes are jeans and tees. For this trip, we are looking for: casual button down shirts (oxfords or plaids), non-jeans/non-khaki trousers, a sport coat or blazer, and some shoes that fall in between the New Balance sneakers he usually wears and the nice black shoes he wears with his suit. Sizes and price range below the cut. [more inside]

My wife and I will be making a trip to NYC this weekend. While we're out and about, I'd like to keep my eyes open for some used RPGs, specifically 1st or 2nd ed Dungeons and Dragons. Where should I look? I know I can get things cheaper online (online recommendations also welcomed for extra XP), but I need to actually examine the books to see if they fit my needs. [more inside]

We will be coming to New York City over Columbus Day weekend and I find myself with some free time to do some shopping. I would like to know about a) men's online retailers with a brick-and-mortar NYC presence and b) your finest vintage shops. [more inside]

Is there anywhere in NYC I can go to browse through scrap metal and parts? I'm looking for broken machine parts or empty metal cases or just scrap steel, but not car parts. I've tried Film Biz Recycling and BuildItGreenNYC, but would like larger more useless items than what they carry.

Where can I get a cheapish sports bra in Manhattan? I'm currently near 60th street and 6th ave. Bonus points for a pair of throw away shorts/tshirt. I'm staying in Newark for the night (flight leaves ewr in the morning), so I don't want to go too far. [more inside]

I'm looking for resources: specific stores that have 'dented' food items, websites for good local deals, etc. [more inside]

I'm going to be in NYC soon. I buy a lot of import (read: straight from Shenzen) photography junk (stands, lens hoods, macro rails, Benro tripods/heads, LED lights, etc). All cheap and low-ish quality.
I buy this stuff on eBay and it is almost always coming from Shenzen or NYC/Jersey. If I wanted to see stores or kiosks full of it, where should I look?

I am a 12-16, but I often find that I cannot fit into the highest 'straight size' at a mainstream retailer. This said, I cannot shop in a plus-size store as their smallest size hangs on me. I find this very frustrating! [more inside]

For all its niceties, the downside of internet shopping is that its sometimes hard to just find an actual store that has what you want. I want a straw hat for the beach this week (yay vacation!), and want to find the store in NYC has the best in-store selection. I am a guy.
I need to try them on, because my face and head are unforgiving of hat's that just don't work. I'm not even sure of the exact style will fit me best. I can look real bad or totally ok easily.
Would like to spend under $100... where should I look, fine folks?

What kind of table do I want and where can I get it? We've been unhappy with our dining table for some time now, it's too big (tall), it scratches easy, and seems to require near constant care because it's also serving as two people's work table. I'm looking for a small informal table that can work easily as a dining table and a work desk. Is there a name for the kind of table I want and where can I find it in the NYC area. Details follow. I need an antique (or sufficiently vintage-y-antiqu-y styled) trunk for my living room. Problem: every piece I've seen to has been too big, too worn, too ugly, or too expensive. Where would I find stores/markets/fairs/dealers in the NYC metro area that might carry such trunks? I got a zipcar, so I can tool around the tri-state area. Insanely detailed requirements follow. I was a dolt and missed the deadline to ship my Mom's potential Christmas gift
to my parent's house before I left town. So now I'm left with one weekend in NYC to find her something pretty for the home that's also small enough to fit in a carry-on suitcase. I need recommendations for classy, inexpensive stores in NYC that carry unique and/or handmade bowls, candle holders, tableware, etc for under $80. [more inside]

Ruffly panties online, or in NYC? i.e. cute, classy panties/bras/corsets/etc that won't break the bank. Victoria's Secret falls apart pretty fast, in my experience. Looking for something a step up, but not ridiculously expensive or (on the other hand) trashy. At the very least, how much should I be looking to spend on such a thing? [more inside]

I'm tall (6'4"), I'm skinny (195lbs), and I need a black suit jacket before the end of the day today (I have the pants, but I'll buy new ones if need be). Obviously the time constraint eliminates any kind of custom garment. Basically, I need to know what stores I should be looking at in New York City -- I like a closer, more European fit, and I don't want to break the bank. First stop is H&M, but I'm not optimistic about what I'll find there. Other suggestions?

Recently in the New York Times, there was an article here
about where to buy no-frills kitchen equipment in New York. What are some other stores/types of stores like this in New York for bulk/no-frills/cheap essentials?
Specifically does anyone know of a place to get cheap and generic computer parts and cables? Or Audio/Video cables?
