I think these "barefoot sandals"
would be quite fetching if done in a dark brown satin-finish cord and attached to a leather sole (something like these
), and I’m trying to figure out how to go about it. Making the crochet part is no problem at all, but finding a sole and attaching the two is going to be a challenge. I'm hoping that the accomplished MeFi online shoppers can help me, and also that there's a MeFite or two who know something about cobbling. [more inside]

I have trouble walking long distances or standing for extended periods due to some foot problems (surgery gone bad). 3 years ago I found some shoes/slides made by Skechers called 'Writers/Carroll" that helped a lot. Bought 3 pairs and now they're looking a bit ratty. I'm desperate to replace them. Size 45. Any idea where I might find new ones? I tried Skechers via their web site and they were no help at all. Also tried My feet and I will be eternally grateful.

Help me find school-spirited shoes! My girlfriend and I are both students at the University of Washington. Last weekend, when the football team was playing USC, we saw a girl walking around with what were probably kangaROOS in school colors: purple and yellow (mostly purple, with yellow accents). My girlfriend instantly fell in love with them and we've been trying to find them everywhere to no avail. [more inside]

Who makes comfortable, cushiony, resoleable men's dress shoes? I'm okay with Rockport for comfort, but their shoes apparently are no longer resoleable, and I wear out soles long before the uppers. Surely someone makes a comfortable shoe you can resole?

I have been looking high and low (without luck) for this pair of sandals--I know they exist, because I saw someone wearing them before I became intent on getting a pair. Oh, how I wish I'd asked her where she got them!
It is a sort of boho-thong sandal with a flat ring that sits between your big and first toes. Thin cords make up the side straps. For a really crappy sketch, click here
. Pardon my drawing skills.
I would prefer a physical store (instant gratification, you know,) but online stores will satisfy my shoe-lust as well. I have googled the world over but have yet to come up with anything close enough.

I'm looking to get some new sandals with the intention of going hiking/camping/rock climbing/etc in them. I already know of Tevas, but even those have multiple variations so I turn to y'all's experience and suggestions of specific sandals to buy for outdoor use. I'd like to stay under $100, but I understand it might not be doable.

For six years I've worn a particular kind of black boot which has, understandably, succumbed to the ravages of time. It's kind of like a military boot and kind of like a workboot as this crappy cellphone photo
demonstrates. My sister bought the original pair for me in Portland and doesn't remember any of the details: store name, brand name, and so forth. My guess is a place like GI Joe's
. Any idea what this style of boot is called? And does anyone have a preferred online shopping outlet for kind of standard-issue apparel?

I do a lot of hill hiking in hot weather, up and down on both paved and unpaved trails. I have a high arch and underpronate. How can I zero in on some good trail shoes? I don't want full-fledged hiking boots, just cushioned trail runners with toe & sole protection for the pebbly & stony parts.

Where can you get shoes for unfortunately-footed women in London? I'm looking for shoe stores that stock large sizes
but also narrow widths
. The person in question has a 11.5 or 12 US/CAN shoe size, which is about a 10 or 10.5 UK size, with an AA width, which often complicates matters. Bonus points if the store sells styles that actually look good.
