Alas, the 3 1/2-inch stiletto heel on one of my glorious Calvin Klein brown suede pumps has broken, after a year of intensive catwalking on NYC pavement. The steel rod inside the heel bent in half. I tried to straighten it out with a vise, but the heel bent again as soon as I tried to walk on it. The shoe repair guy I went to claimed it's impossible to fix. But I know I can fix it by replacing the steel rod. Any ideas on where to find one?

Anyone know how the foot pod works and how reliable it's going to be? I have not come across any technical details about that at all, only the ipod interface.

I'm really interested in the soon coming iPod+Nike
technology: Basically a really high tech way of tracking your running, syncing it with your computer, tracking your progress, interacting with others, etc. However, I'd really kind of like to avoid Nike for it's high prices and other reasons, so does anyone know any other similar high tech products that could help me track my run? Extra points for Mac compatibility.

Help me make my hard working wife's feet happy. My wife is a surgery nurse and is due for a new great pair of nursing shoes. We'll be in the greater Minneapolis/St. Paul area in a few weeks. Anyone have any recommendations on a great place to buy such a pair of shoes in that area?

So a few years ago I bought this really awesome pair of shoes at a thrift store. It was serendipity - they were the perfect style , size and price! Now, alas, I have worn them out. It has been impossible to find another pair! Dear Mefites, can you help a girl find another perfect pair of kicks? [more inside]

What are the best places in San Francisco to find good sneakers? Rare and vintage is nice, hard to find colorways, basically anything that would make people ask, "where'd you get those?"

I think these "barefoot sandals"
would be quite fetching if done in a dark brown satin-finish cord and attached to a leather sole (something like these
), and I’m trying to figure out how to go about it. Making the crochet part is no problem at all, but finding a sole and attaching the two is going to be a challenge. I'm hoping that the accomplished MeFi online shoppers can help me, and also that there's a MeFite or two who know something about cobbling. [more inside]

Do such shoes exist? I'm planning a new look, and I'd love any tips on where to find black mens shoes that, unlike running shoes or sneakers, look vaguely like (informal) dress shoes
, but are in fact kickass running/climbing/jumping shoes in disguise. [more inside]

I have trouble walking long distances or standing for extended periods due to some foot problems (surgery gone bad). 3 years ago I found some shoes/slides made by Skechers called 'Writers/Carroll" that helped a lot. Bought 3 pairs and now they're looking a bit ratty. I'm desperate to replace them. Size 45. Any idea where I might find new ones? I tried Skechers via their web site and they were no help at all. Also tried My feet and I will be eternally grateful.

Help me find school-spirited shoes! My girlfriend and I are both students at the University of Washington. Last weekend, when the football team was playing USC, we saw a girl walking around with what were probably kangaROOS in school colors: purple and yellow (mostly purple, with yellow accents). My girlfriend instantly fell in love with them and we've been trying to find them everywhere to no avail. [more inside]

Who makes comfortable, cushiony, resoleable men's dress shoes? I'm okay with Rockport for comfort, but their shoes apparently are no longer resoleable, and I wear out soles long before the uppers. Surely someone makes a comfortable shoe you can resole?
