I recently completed a short cruise down the Yangtze River
in China, ending at the new Three Gorges Dam
. Along the way we noticed lots of garbage floating in the river, mostly bamboo or other natural material, some Styrofoam, and lots
of shoes. Is there some significance to shoes in the river? [more inside]

Crocs are supposed to be comfortable. I'm between sizes on the ubiquious 'beach' model, so they don't work for me. I know there are adult models that have traditional sizing, (and aren't
Mary Janes) so where can I find them in Toronto? [more inside]

I need a new pair of sneakers, mainly to be used for going to the gym. Most sneakers appropriate for running are gaudy, strangely bulbous and look like some sort of terrifying cyborg technology. I just want a humble and functional pair of shoes that will protect my feet while exercising and possibly promote good posture. Any suggestions?

I just bought a pair of sneakers that are made with white leather that has an unfinished feel to it (not glossy, but not suede either). My jeans are leaving blue marks all over them! How to remove the blue stuff, and how to prevent it in the future? Must I absolutely avoid wearing these shoes with jeans, or is there something I could treat them with, perhaps?

I'm looking for an online store to buy a shoeshine kit in Canada- any ideas? I'm living in Wells, BC, and the only nearby town is Quesnel. Wal-Mart has the stuff, but I flatly refuse to buy anything from Wal-Mart. What is a on-line Canadian shoe company that I could buy polish, brushes, etc. from? I'd like to keep it in Canada, so I don't have to pay international shipping.

Is there such a thing as a shoe insert for men that adds an inch or so to one's height, maybe by lifting the ball of the foot up a little bit? Or are there specially designed tennis/casual/etc shoes? [more inside]

Without fail, the soles on the heels of my boots wear down unevenly. The outside part (the edge) of the heel on each shoe wears down more quickly than the inside part, so each shoe become lopsided. How can I prevent this? [more inside]

What are some good standing/walking all-day shoes (8 hours worth of standing and/or walking around the office?
I work in a sign production office, so there's a lot of basically standing working on projects on the table or walking around getting various supplies and operating printers, etc. all day. Really no sitting down at all.
They need to be no more than $100 and go great with jeans. I like the bowling shoe or puma look. Not a big fan of Nike running shoes with jeans look. Maybe some Crocs?
