Hi, I am looking for hiking sandals that have a flat sole, like Birkenstocks. [more inside]
I have some old Birkenstocks where the leather is in good condition (it could use a light cleaning), but the soles and cork need to be replaced. Does anyone have recommendations for Birkenstock repair shops that I can mail my shoes to that do good work at a fair price? [more inside]
I want a pair of sandals similar to this or this - flat, made of thin straps of real leather, with an interesting strap design but no other embellishment. For some reason, I can't seem to find them anywhere. [more inside]

A portmanteau for this man's poor toes:
Are Keen Newports good shoes for a long trip to Disney World in August? If not, what beats them? I mean, can I simply wear my running shoes?
Do you try on footwear like this with or without socks?
Do you allow extra room on the assumption that your feet will swell in the steam heat? [more inside]
I think I may be the most difficult shoe-buyer ever. I want them to be 1) vegetarian (no leather) and 2) actually supportive and good for my knees and feet or able to hold supportive orthotics such that they become that way. This generally gets me a small selection of flat boots, oxfords, and sneakers, with the odd casual/sporty mary-jane thrown in. I'd like to have more than just boots to go with dresses/skirts (particularly for the summer or for really dressy dresses), but I thought it was an impossibility and had moved on with my life. But lo, I just discovered the brand Orthaheel, and they have cute flat vegetarian orthotic sandals! Why oh why did the world hide this brand from me until now?! Do you know of other brands or specific shoes that will expand my shoe cuteness? [more inside]

What should I wear to a destination wedding in St. Barths? It's going to be full of super-swanky people (fashion industry & banker types), and I'm but a 21 year old on a student's budget who has never gone to a wedding before. Dress and shoe recommendations highly appreciated, preferably from stores in NYC. [more inside]

I just received my first pair of full-length custom orthotics to help correct an SI injury I've been receiving physical therapy for. Problem is, I have no shoes that fit both my feet and the new orthotics except my sneakers. I desperately need a pair of sandals since, you know, it's summer and all. What should I wear on my feet this spring/summer? ... Not so much a fashion question, as a let's-keep-my-feet-under-me-and-my-bones-unbroken question. But a little fashion would be nice. [more inside]

Followup to this question: where can I find a sturdy, inelastic fibre with which to make the uppers for a pair of flip flop sandals? [more inside]
I think these "barefoot sandals" would be quite fetching if done in a dark brown satin-finish cord and attached to a leather sole (something like these), and I’m trying to figure out how to go about it. Making the crochet part is no problem at all, but finding a sole and attaching the two is going to be a challenge. I'm hoping that the accomplished MeFi online shoppers can help me, and also that there's a MeFite or two who know something about cobbling. [more inside]
I have been looking high and low (without luck) for this pair of sandals--I know they exist, because I saw someone wearing them before I became intent on getting a pair. Oh, how I wish I'd asked her where she got them! It is a sort of boho-thong sandal with a flat ring that sits between your big and first toes. Thin cords make up the side straps. For a really crappy sketch, click here. Pardon my drawing skills. I would prefer a physical store (instant gratification, you know,) but online stores will satisfy my shoe-lust as well. I have googled the world over but have yet to come up with anything close enough.
I'm looking to get some new sandals with the intention of going hiking/camping/rock climbing/etc in them. I already know of Tevas, but even those have multiple variations so I turn to y'all's experience and suggestions of specific sandals to buy for outdoor use. I'd like to stay under $100, but I understand it might not be doable.
Anyone remember those brown leather sandals from the 70s which used a slab of old tire for the sole? The top straps were linked with rivets and metal rings. They were very common then, but apparently not so today. Can anyone out-Google me and find some for sale?
