Final half-marathon preparations: I'm signed up for the Sydney Half-Marathon (my first ever!) on May 18th, and I've just got a couple questions as I enter these last few weeks of preparations. Do I need to start investigating energy gels or GUs or something? And is this a *really* bad time to get new shoes? I'm getting a bit jittery so I'd be grateful for any wisdom and advice from the MeFi running contingent... [more inside]

Needed- best running shops in the New York metropolitan area for getting feet (flat) and gait (upright) analyzed and shoes recommended. A place that knows its stuff and isn't going to shove whatever they have the most of in back down my leg. (Or am I being hopelessly naive?) Thanks in advance.

Anyone know how the foot pod works and how reliable it's going to be? I have not come across any technical details about that at all, only the ipod interface.

I'm really interested in the soon coming iPod+Nike technology: Basically a really high tech way of tracking your running, syncing it with your computer, tracking your progress, interacting with others, etc. However, I'd really kind of like to avoid Nike for it's high prices and other reasons, so does anyone know any other similar high tech products that could help me track my run? Extra points for Mac compatibility.

DressyRunningShoeFilter: I run everywhere, all the time. So I wear running shoes. Any suggestions for dressier footwear, that will still allow me to run, and won't give me blisters? This would be useful, for example, to look nice, attend business meetings, or get into "no sneakers" clubs.
