I love my minimalist shoes, but a few years ago I attempted to run in them and ended up with capsulitis in the joints in the ball of my left foot. Here I am a few years later and I want to try running again. Difficulty level: female, with wide feet. [more inside]

Can anyone recommend some running shoes with no laces that don't need to be fitted in a running shop? Ideally they should be buyable in London tomorrow, or able to be delivered in the UK quite quickly. [more inside]

I've been running off and on for a few years now in a pair of Nike free 5.0 v4
, whenever the guilt hits me.
I've decided to take my health serious as I'm getting older. Since I'm goal oriented, I decided to train for and complete my very first 5k race which is scheduled for mid October.
Problem is, my current pair of sneakers is starting to give at the soles. They are a great, light and comfortable minimalist shoes that caused no problems for my feet. Another plus was being able to go sock-less without a single blister.
Can anyone suggest a suitable replacement? So far, I have my eyes on the New Balance MT10v2
and will be running 2-3 times a week in addition to some core work.

I've worn a hole through the sole of my left running shoe, but not the right. You can see pictures of both shoes here
. What does this mean? Is something wrong with my stride? Do I need some special kind of shoe? Is there some sort of expert to whom I should show the shoes? I have an odd gait when I walk (my right foot sticks out to the side); however, I thought my running gait was better. When I ran in my 20s (the last time I was a runner), I didn't have this problem with any of my shoes.

Minimalist running filter: I normally size up a full size when buying running shoes (8.5 in "street shoes" to 9.5 in running shoes). Should I be doing the same for minimalist running shoes, and do socks matter? [more inside]

I've recently started long distance running (5 months). I purchased a pair of running shoes two months ago and I've noticed that my left shoe is rubbing the back of my achilles tendon. Does anyone know of any type of product that will cushion the back of my running shoe and prevent it from rubbing against my tendon in this way?
I can still run at the moment but there is some strong soreness where that part of the shoe hits the back of my foot. [more inside]

Help me find the right pair of minimalist shoes! I've been a member of a Crossfit gym for six months, which means I've been exposed to the peer pressure regarding Vibram FiveFingers
. Plus, I'm starting to travel a lot (and lightly
) and want a pair of running shoes that have a small footprint (heh)
when packed in a suitcase. Recommendations for this recreational runner? Are Vibrams a good option? Which model? How do I size them? I'm training for next October's Portland Marathon, if that makes a difference. Bonus points for shoes available at REI (though that's not a requirement).

Ok, seriously: Is there any reliable information on running shoes out there? Who the hell can I trust? Every source of information seems either fraught with bias or complete fluff. What's a critical thinker to do? And more importantly, what goddamn shoes should I buy? [more inside]

Final half-marathon preparations: I'm signed up for the Sydney Half-Marathon

And is this a *really* bad time to get new shoes? I'm getting a bit jittery so I'd be grateful for any wisdom and advice from the MeFi running contingent... [more inside]

Needed- best running shops in the New York metropolitan area for getting feet (flat) and gait (upright) analyzed and shoes recommended. A place that knows its stuff and isn't going to shove whatever they have the most of in back down my leg. (Or am I being hopelessly naive?) Thanks in advance.

I'm really interested in the soon coming iPod+Nike
technology: Basically a really high tech way of tracking your running, syncing it with your computer, tracking your progress, interacting with others, etc. However, I'd really kind of like to avoid Nike for it's high prices and other reasons, so does anyone know any other similar high tech products that could help me track my run? Extra points for Mac compatibility.

DressyRunningShoeFilter: I run everywhere, all the time. So I wear running shoes. Any suggestions for dressier footwear, that will still allow me to run, and won't give me blisters? This would be useful, for example, to look nice, attend business meetings, or get into "no sneakers" clubs.
