I've a variety of 100% cotton shirts in my closet with a variety of different feelings and textures! How can this be? Some of them are rough and stiff feeling while others are light and soft. I've seen terms such as "thread count", "knit", and "weight" but I don't know how they relate to what I'm wearing. Also those variables don't appear to be listed on the shirt tag anywhere! I often shop online and it'd be nice if I could have some idea of what any given shirt is going to feel like before I order it.

I need a ridiculously soft white t-shirt to complete the perfect pyjamas, the most comfortable money can buy. What brands would you recommend, and where can I buy them (delivery by Friday to, or physically in, London)?
Additionally, what goes towards making a t-shirt soft?

I'm sartorially clueless. How would you describe thiskind of shirt? It's a "dress shirt", sure, but how would you specify the fabric and cut (particularly that type of collar)? Here is another example. I'm looking to buy some shirts like these but when I go to department stores I can only find this sort of thing - which is cut completely differently and uses an extremely thin fabric. Help me articulate the differences.
