What's the name for the piece of women's clothing that looks like one is wearing a v-neck sweater over a button-down shirt, but really it's one shirt with collar and cuffs attached to a "fake" sweater?

I recently bought a relatively cheap men's sport/dress shirt that I love, but while it fits perfectly around the neck and chest the cuffs are about 1/2 an inch too long and there's just a bit too much fabric in the sleeves for my taste. What would I want to ask a tailor before having them alter my shirt, to ensure they wont mess it up/make it look bad?

I'd like to keep my button-down shirts tucked in to my suits better, but I mostly wear skirt suits. Traditional shirt garters clip onto your socks, so those won't do. Any ideas?

Lands' End used to make what they called a heavyweight shirt. It was 100% cotton, tagless, fabric was a little coarse and it had a very satisfying weight. They also weren't too long and fit my somewhat-short torso well. They don't make it anymore! Do you know the shirts I'm talking about? Have you found a replacement?

I want to buy a shirt with a slogan on it, but no shirt with that slogan exists. Thus, I wish to cause its existence. Because my skills of an artist are meager, I don't want to do this myself on cafepress/spreadshirt/etc. Thus, I wish to ask YOU, metafilter, these questions: (a) where can I go or whom can I ask for my t-shirt-slogan-designing needs? (b) how much is this sort of thing likely to cost? (If too much, I'll just pass.)

Toronto-filter: Is there a good place to get shirts (both male and female) washed and ironed for a reasonable price? I've tried dry cleaners but while male shirts seem to be ok from a price perspective (although still expensive), female shirts (exact same material, some form of cotton blend) are charged at twice and sometimes three times the price, even though they are, almost literally, just smaller men's shirts. Any recommendations would be helpful. Thanks.

I have this shirt and it has a hole in the front. It is made of tee shirt material so sewing it is not necessarily an option. I am looking for a replacement as I love this shirt, and I would wear it every day if I could.

I need a ridiculously soft white t-shirt to complete the perfect pyjamas, the most comfortable money can buy. What brands would you recommend, and where can I buy them (delivery by Friday to, or physically in, London)?

I've lost some weight recently - all above my waist. Now my shirts don't fit! I've searched teh interwebs for advice on shirts but mostly what I get is vague or styled for a much younger (or slimmer) crowd. So I put it to y'all. How do I shop for a now pear-shaped body when I've been hour-glass most of my life?

I don't have my measurements on hand at the moment, but I'm 5'9" and 145 pounds. I'm looking for the more casual and trendy dress shirt versus trad. Most are cut too big and blousy, or just not my size, or not my taste (plaid/paisley = ick). I went to my local mens' store and found
Stone Rose shirts and was impressed by the
detail and
quality, but alas, no smalls. I could order online, but $100 to $150 per shirt is out of my league for now, plus the extra costs as these are supposed to be dry cleaned only.
Trolling the racks of TJ Maxx and Goodwill isn't bringing much luck, much less Sears, Macy's and JC Penney in my immediate area. Where can I find some alternatives? Please no Ed Hardy.

How could I find some exact duplicates of a Faconnable shirt that my wife and I like a lot? Would you get alerts on ebay? Are there vintage clothes sites that you would recommend. Is there a website at which I could post its picture? In general, if you know exactly what you want in the way of clothing that is a couple of years old, how do you find it?

I accidentally splashed cooking oil on a solid-color 100% cotton shirt. The splash left a slightly darker discoloration that won't wash out. If I soak my shirt in cooking oil and then wash it will it assume the slightly darker color and appear evenly colored again?
