I have a 42-inch LCD TV in its original box that needs to make its way cross-country. Can we just drop it off at FedEx/UPS, or does prudence and shipping policy require us to find a larger exterior box with more cushioning?

Any up-to-date advice about less expensive (not cheap, of course) ways to ship about 100-150 lb of personal belongings from France to the US? I don't need fast delivery, just reliable and not break-the-bank.

I'm currently in Tenn. a thousand or so miles from home. I am looking to ship several bottles of whisky back to my home state of Washington, as I have to fly to Canada before heading back home.
Can anyone recommend a decent way of doing this, accepting that most delivery services (FedEx, UPS, USPS) do not allow this activity unless I'm a licensed vendor? Thanks!

Where to start looking for rail cargo rates? I need to move about a shipping container worth of stuff from one side of the USA to the other. (DC to Fan Francisco). I have been told several times that rail is the cheapest, but I can't find much information about how to do it.

Moving Grad-Students: Two of us are moving back to Ontario from Edmonton, Alberta. We need to ship ourselves and our stuff. Options include: buy a (cheapish) car/van and drive (we'd sell it upon arrival), one-way van rental (rather expensive?), fly and ship our stuff (Greyhound?). Any wisdom much appreciated. How much would I pay for a 20' shipping container from Tema, Ghana to New York? I know there are a lot of variables that will affect the answer, so I'm looking for a very rough estimate or range. Any information as to what variables are likely to affect the cost significantly would be so very helpful.

I have a relative who will be in Orlando from december 8 to 18. I'd like to order some (photo) products online and have them sent to a safe/reliable address where he can pick them up. Many places, like B&H, will not ship to a hotel. Is there any way around this? I don't know anyone in the city.

I'm in Toronto, Canada. A sofa set I want is in Arizona. The seller of the sofa set won't ship anywhere. I cannot fly out and get the sofa. How can I get the sofa? That is, is there someone or a service I can hire in Arizona to go get the sofa, package it up, and ship it to me? The pieces come apart (legs, back, arms) very easily (no tools) and all could ship relatively flat. Suggestions?

My wife recently sold an art piece and is having trouble figuring out how to ship it. It's four rectangular panels with dried leaves sticking out perpendicular in narrow rows. The leaves, while fairly sturdy, are thin enough that they need to be suspended without anything touching the tops of them to prevent them from being smashed.
Pictures are here
Each of the four panels is 4"x24" with the leaves about 4" high. The border of each panel is 1/4" deep and 1/8" wide.
We've considered carving out styrofoam, but the narrowness of the border dissallows that. The only solution we've been able to come up with is to wood-glue some more of the panel material into slots for the panels to slide into, but we're not sure if that is the best option here. Any ideas, websites, suggestions or insights would be very, very much appreciated!

I would like to ship a gift from North America to Southeast Asia. Shipping costs from Amazon are very high - >= the cost of the item (a hardcover book). Would it be best to ship from Amazon, buy it locally and ship from here, or find an online retailer in Southeast Asia that stocks the item I'm looking for (would need suggestions here as well!)? I need 3-4 weeks shipping time max. Also, would I generally need to worry about customs if I ship this as a gift?

What's the cheapest way to move a bunch of banker's boxes across the United States? I have 98 sealed banker's boxes full of books, papers, and a few durable household items in New York City and want to move them to San Francisco. What's the cheapest way to do that short of driving them across the country myself? USPS, UPS, Fedex, etc. all want to treat these as 98 parcels, which is prohibitively expensive. I could pay a moving company to do it, but that's also quite expensive -- and it's not like I need that kind of don't-scratch-my-antiques level of care anyway. Isn't there a cheaper way to get 98 uniform, nonfragile boxes across the country?
