I lived in LA several years ago and still have a storage locker there filled with my old stuff. Most of it is in moving boxes, but there's also a table in bubble-wrap. I want to move it all to a storage locker in Brooklyn, New York. (1) I want to do this the cheapest way possible. I don't care how long it takes to get from Point A to Point B. (2) I checked out the UPS and Fedex Freight sites but they're *extremely* confusing. (3) I am only going to be in LA for THREE DAYS to arrange this so I need some method that can be concluded quickly. (4) I am leaving for LA TONIGHT! My thanks in advance to all you MeFiers for this very-last-minute question. :)

How can I ship vodka to Australia from Ohio?!? I know the USPS won't ship hooch, but is there ANYONE that will. I'm trying to send some locally-made vodka to a very special lady in Sydney, but it's starting to look dire. HELP!
I feel overwhelmed, maybe because I am down with a bad cold, so I am hoping you can tell me how to get three bookshelves of books from CA to NYC. Constraints: cheaper is better, heavier is worse, and being home to get the packages is a serious challenge. Should I be shipping them in dozens of little boxes? Is there a better way? How am I ever going to get my collection out of my parents' basement and into my apartment? Like an adult? Move ALL the books? Cough cough help.

I'm cleaning out my storage, and wanted to find out whether two objects are worth keeping / selling: A nautical insurance policy from Sept. 21, 1802 (front, back), and a B&W photograph, on a 14"x20" piece of Kodak paper, of Mt. Saint Helens erupting, photographer unknown (photo). More details inside. [more inside]

What is the best way to get two snowboards (and associated gear) from Seattle, Washington to Aspen, Colorado if we don't know where we will be staying while there? Flying with the snowboards would be hugely inconvenient, since travel plans include two continents and several cities with extended stopovers before we eventually meet up in Aspen for NYE.

I've ordered a dress on behalf of the wife and it is being made and shipped from the Ukraine. They have given us a tracking number, but I suspect it is an incorrect one: The number supplied starts with RA, then has 9 digits and ends with UA. I've looked at the USPS Track & Confirm page and there is no RA suffix, only RE - and they always end in US, not UA So have I been given bogus info ?

Smartest way to consolidate a large international order from Amazon.com? A big enough order to get free shipping within the US, and of mostly small and light items from multiple vendors, but international shipping will add several hundred to the cost. This is to Singapore, but the Singapore service (Vpost.com.sg) is frankly lousy, and I'd like an alternative.

I just got back from a 500 mile road trip on the New York Thruway. Spotted three cars with Hawaiian license plates. I have never seen one before. Obviously, they didn't drive to the mainland. Two were older cars, mid-ninety's econoboxes, one a big SUV. About how much would it cost to ship a car from the islands, or did they just bring their plates and buy a car locally?

I'd like to learn a lot more about shipping things. For instance, manufactured goods from China to the US. What is the process? How is the freight billed? How do you take possession of the goods once they arrive? Who insures the freight being shipped? Is there a good reference for this kind of thing that doesn't pre-suppose familiarity?

Shipping clothes from Canada to USA: what does the Certificate of Disinfection entail, where do I get it?
I have 2 large boxes of used clothing/shoes to ship to the US soon, and the post office employee told me the volume of items would definitely not pass the border unless I have a Certificate of Disinfection. Unfortunately, this document seems non-existent. There is NO information in Google, answers are always something along the lines of, "Ship it in several smaller boxes!" or "Don't say it's clothing!" which are avoiding the point: I am trying to do this by the book (legally). Does anyone have experience with this particularly evasive document, or parameters that would let Customs determine the packages are okay? Or another way I could *legally* ship the clothing to the US? [more inside]
