I have 2 large boxes of used clothing/shoes to ship to the US soon, and the post office employee told me the volume of items would definitely not pass the border unless I have a Certificate of Disinfection. Unfortunately, this document seems non-existent. There is NO information in Google, answers are always something along the lines of, "Ship it in several smaller boxes!"
or "Don't say it's clothing!"
which are avoiding the point: I am trying to do this by the book (legally).
Does anyone have experience with this particularly evasive document, or parameters that would let Customs determine the packages are okay?
Or another way I could *legally* ship the clothing to the US? [more inside]

I ordered something from an Etsy seller located in London on November 15th, and I still haven't received it. Seller claims she shipped it in November and blames the crazy snow in London on the delay. So, my brothers and sisters on the other side of the pond, is it true? Have you had the blizzard of the century, or what? [more inside]

I just sold my laptop on eBay... my first eBay sale. The buyer was in Poland. I've never shipped anything internationally. Looks like I can ship the package for about $40. It also looks like this sale might require someone to pay a Value Added Tax or import tax of some kind. What do I need to know about how this works? Do I pay or does he? Anything I should consider in the course of this sale?

I need some shipping boxes for larger items. Unfortunately I only need one or two, so it doesn't make sense to buy from Uline. And the freebies from the grocery/liquor store aren't appropriate. Is there a more affordable vendor than an office supply or specialty shipping store for this stuff? Thanks!

Need reliable shipper for art. I need to ship two framed paintings from Connecticut to Seattle. These are family antiques that I could not bear to lose. I already had a wooden crate made. I need to get the crate shipped.
- Highly reliable and insured
- Speed and delivery date are flexible. I can arrange to be available to receive shipment on short notice.
- size: the crate is about 2' x 3' x 1'.
- Cost... looking for lower cost options, but reliability is key.
- The paintings have not been appraised, nor do they have any documentation. I'm sure they are worth money, but the real value is sentimental. I'd rather not go to the expense of having them photographed and appraised.
I've already requested a quote from Art Logistics
. I haven't heard back yet, but I suspect the cost will be very high. And I'm not sure they ship to and from private residences.
fyi... an earlier thread about shipping art

Where can I find a comprehensive list of all the ports in the United States that are capable of receiving an international cargo shipment that will need to be cleared through US customs? I know that this includes seaports, but I think that it also includes "dry ports" and "intermodal hubs."

I am sitting here drinking coffee from a Crate & Barrel jumbo mug (ie reasonably specialist item), made in China. What journey did it take from its origin in China to get to my kitchen? I'm particularly interested here in how freight & distribution of specialist items works - ie if you're shipping rice, I'm guessing you just fill an ISO container with rice and send it off, but if you've got lots of weird little things, how is the contents, packing, count, destination etc of a container determined?

I live in Austin, Texas. I have books and music equipment in Easthapton, Mass. I will be up there in June and have looked for rental vehicles to drive back to Texas. The cost for a one way U-haul is about $1400. Avis charges $1200. I-Pod shipping cost over $2000. Is there any other way to get my stuff to Texas without the cost of a used car?
