I have 7 boxes (each 65cm x 40cm x 35cm) that weigh a total of 125kgs I need shipping from Liverpool, UK to Toronto, Canada as part of my Permanent Residence application. I've never done this before and I need company recommendations.
I'm seeking recommendations on how to move my worldly goods (not furniture, but maybe my bike) from Toronto to Vancouver. Specific questions below the fold. [more inside]
We're about to move from Toronto to San Francisco. (Yay!) But we have to move our things. (Nightmare!) We live pretty lightly, and aren't moving furniture, so we're thinking the best thing to do is ship a big pile of boxes using UPS or FedEx. Any thoughts on which is preferable? I have the impression that FedEx can be a bit nightmarish when borders are involved, but have zero experience with UPS international shipments.
Our family of four will be flying to Vancouver, BC, soon to visit my brother and his family. One of the things we'd like to do, if it makes sense, is bring along our daughter's 20" mountain bike to give to his kids. [more inside]

Shipping clothes from Canada to USA: what does the Certificate of Disinfection entail, where do I get it?
I have 2 large boxes of used clothing/shoes to ship to the US soon, and the post office employee told me the volume of items would definitely not pass the border unless I have a Certificate of Disinfection. Unfortunately, this document seems non-existent. There is NO information in Google, answers are always something along the lines of, "Ship it in several smaller boxes!" or "Don't say it's clothing!" which are avoiding the point: I am trying to do this by the book (legally). Does anyone have experience with this particularly evasive document, or parameters that would let Customs determine the packages are okay? Or another way I could *legally* ship the clothing to the US? [more inside]

Moving Grad-Students: Two of us are moving back to Ontario from Edmonton, Alberta. We need to ship ourselves and our stuff. Options include: buy a (cheapish) car/van and drive (we'd sell it upon arrival), one-way van rental (rather expensive?), fly and ship our stuff (Greyhound?). Any wisdom much appreciated. I really love this product (it is cool, isn't it?) - but as a Canadian, it seems just out of my grasp as they won't ship it to me. This site also has it, but again, discriminates against Canadians. Does anyone know anywhere else I can get it, either online or in person (I'm in Toronto) or something similar? [more inside]
Many American eBayers won't ship outside of the USA. I find this extremely silly and annoying but I guess that's besides the point. My question is: is there a service I can utilize that will allow me to buy items and give an American address and then someone at that address will then forward the package to me in Canada?
