Tiny car, big furniture?

I live alone in West LA. I have a tiny car with no trunk to speak of. I would like to start shopping for some used furniture, but it won't fit into my not-trunk. Everywhere else I've lived, I've known friends or family who have access to pickups, SUVs, etc and coordinated with them when I needed furniture moved. Not here. Getting the clothes and toys from the US to Germany

My friends are moving the family from the US to Germany. They are planning on getting rid of most of the things they own, but would like to keep a number of the children's toys and books, some instruments, clothing, and miscellaneous other items. I'm guessing they're looking to keep around 250lbs of stuff to be shipped in boxes. What is the least expensive way of shipping several 40ish pound boxes from the US to Germany?

How Can I Avoid USPS When Shopping Online?

I quit Amazon because all my packages ship via USPS, either directly or FedEx SmartPost. Now I'm looking for online retailers who let me choose UPS or FedEx. Are there any? Also want to avoid SmartPost and its UPS equivalent. (Some merchants tell you a shipment will use FedEx/UPS but you find out after commiting the order that USPS handles the last mile. Right now I'm waiting on a SmartPost package turned over to USPS 150 miles from me and it will take 3 days to get it delivered from there.)

Cheapest way to send household stuff and artwork from UK to USA

Moving back to the States from the UK and looking for the cheapest way to ship stuff that we won't immediately need to have on our arrival. Since the move is from London to Miami sea freight seems like the best option. We also have some fragile and oddly-shaped art that we'd like to have handled separately (and carefully). I've looked around for quotes from sea cargo specialists, but would appreciate any suggestions for ideas I may have overlooked. [more inside]

Risks of shipping in lieu of packing it on a plane?

Asking for Gnik Nus. Flying across the country to go rock climbing, a sport which relies on lots of heavy (and need I say pricey) gear. Will also be taking a bus from the airport to the destination. So, in an attempt to avoid lugging all the equipment, thinking about using USPS flat rate shipping boxes to have the stuff go to the house that's been rented specifically for this trip. [more inside]

I need to ship an item from the Russian Federation to the UK...

Some months ago, I lost my iPod in Moscow whilst out there doing festival biz (I'm a Brit by residence). Incredibly, someone found it, the Apple security held, and I got an email from someone telling me they'd be happy to meet up and give it back. As the air fare is higher than the device cost, I thought going postal would be the best option, but I've drawn a blank - most of the delivery companies either want me to pay cash on the Russian side, or expect me to have a corporate account. Receiving international mail from sellers who won't ship internationally

I'm looking for a service that will, say, receive/collect UK/European packages purchased on eBay, arrange international shipping to the US, and send them to me. These would be for auctions where international shipping isn't an option. So, if it's a UK auction, I'd be looking for a UK service that could accept the package on my behalf and forward it to me. I know this service exists, but what should I be googling to find it? Is it courier shipping? Does anyone have any recommendations for particular companies/individuals who offer this service?

Shipping an iPad Overseas

I'd like to ship a new iPad from the US to France as a gift (I haven't bought it yet). It needs to arrive there in about a week and a half. A few quick online searches reveal this may be more complex and costly than I thought - USPS apparently won't deal with anything containing lithium batteries, and FedEx seems to have special requirements and rates for this kind of shipping as well. Anyone know the best way to go about this? And is it likely to be cheaper just to order directly from the Apple store in France, with all the extra shipping and customs fees I might have to pay?
