Why do US Navy submarines operate on 18-hour schedules, with 6 hours on watch and 12 hours off? How did this start? Is there independent justification, or is this some hold-over from old traditions? Why did someone think this was a good idea?

My HTC Evo Shift 4G (two years old?) keeps telling me I'm running out of internal storage. Right now there is only 51.59MB free in the internal storage, while my SD card has over 14G free. It's getting to the point that system apps can't be updated because there is not enough space. What can I do to free up more internal space?

I think I figured out how to effectively monetize the Internet for old media (newspapers, magazines, television). I also have a few ideas how this would work for new media as well. Who do I tell? Who don't I tell? What format should my proposal take? How do I make a little scratch out of it for myself?

I need solid scientific evidence that thought can change matter - how consciousness effects DNA structure, patterns and ultimately reality. Charts, studies, videos, all is welcome as a way of viewing and understanding how the mind's energy works in relation to physical matter. Thank you so much.

Three years ago, a friend and I began developing a web app that allows for instant video conferencing. It uses 15kbs, and uses Flash to achieve its internet goodness. It just works, no problem. And we have had success with it - as a product at two separate companies, no less, building it from scratch both times. Up until now we have been charging for it, month to month, as a service for businesses that can want something better than IM chat. (It has a lot of extra "bells and whistles.")
But now we want to switch it up. We want to go Web 2.1.

I was stop and go driving for about an hour today (hanging flyers for my job; the car's a manual transmission '95 Saturn) and after I finished I was heading back to the store when I hear a pop and my stick shift is just wobbling around. I still have to hold the clutch to start the car but it is stuck in second gear so I can get it going but only drive 10-15mph. What in the hell just happened?

Mac OS 10.2.8. Pressing shift a couple of times turns on caps lock (and also lets me accidentally go into option-lock or command-lock). Pressing it some more turns all this off. I
hate this functionality and want to kill it. How do I do this? (And for future reference, if anyone finds useful google search terms, what are they?) Thank-you!
