I may soon find myself teaching a good friend how to read sheet music over Skype. Mostly for singing, as friend doesn't own any instruments. He can carry a tune reasonably well, but he has no idea how printed symbols correspond to notes, rhythms, sounds, etc. Good resources, esp. practice exercises? [more inside]
Please direct me to the sheet music for the flashiest, show-offy, fun piano pieces you know. (solo piano or 2 pianos/4 hands, any genre) [more inside]
You know how a player piano uses a roll with the music inscribed on it? I'd like such a scroll, but for a regular piece of sheet music. One song and one treble clef. All of the notes in a continuous line. Does such an item exist? If not, how might I best go about having one made?
I was recently eying my books to try to see what the gender balance is for authors. For fiction I was more or less ok, but one thing I noticed is that my collection of piano music is approximately 100% male. I have some jazz but that's really it. Googling has given me some names to follow up on (Clara Schumann, Nadia/Lili Boulanger) but not a lot, and I was wondering if people here have some particular suggestions for pieces. [more inside]
What about for violinists, clarinetists, and stuff like that? Is it because, since they're basically playing one note at a time, they're expected to memorize the entire score, unlike the pianist? Why don't you ever see somebody turning a page for a violinist?
We're getting married in September, and we've been shopping around for a string quartet to play during the ceremony and likely during the dinner. In addition to standard pieces, we'd like subtle, classy versions of our favorite VGM and TV/movie scores to be played. Where can we get sheet music for these sorts of pieces? More inside. I imagined this would be really easy. Google, find, pay, download. Turns out it's not. Looking for Christmas sheet music in pdf format, available for download immediately. Needs not be free BUT I already paid for a subscription to 8notes, and the login information still hasn't arrived (after an hour), and the customer service does not operate today, so I am wary of subscribing to more sites and encountering a similar problem. Can you help? [more inside]
I use GoodReader for reading sheet music on an iPad (3). What wireless page turners work well with iOS (particularly with GoodReader)? I am not so much looking for Google search results that I can find on my own — but if you have experience with a page turner device and how well it works with "standard" or "common" reader apps, I'd like to hear about your positive or negative experiences!
Are there any arrangements out there for a violn/piano duet of The Cure's Just Like Heaven? Looking for sheet music, if possible. Are there sheet-music web-fora around for such a thing? How would I get this. How would I get my filthy paws on this
I'm looking for fun, sightread-able, easily available string quartet sheet music for my wedding. [more inside]
I have and use Turbo Scan on my iPhone. It does what it does beautifully--snaps a picture of a page, straightens it, compensates for perspective, and best (for me), takes the yellow age coloring away, leaving me with a pure black and white image. (I'm mostly scanning old sheet music). Are there any Macintosh apps that would do the same corrections from a digital snapshot? Reason: I have a lot of pre-existing images--high res, but they look like photographs of a page, not that easy-reading, clean black and white. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Is there sheet music available for the newer production of Chess as performed two years ago at the Royal Albert Hall with Josh Groban and Idina Menzel (http://www.chessinconcert.com)? Specifically I am looking for the arrangement of "Quartet (A Model of Decorum and Tranquility)" (youtube video here). All the versions of sheet music that I have been able to find are from the original concept album, which is substantially different. Not only lyrical differences, but the ending is completely different with a modulation and extended fugue with all four vocal parts. If nothing else, can anyone recommend a UK source for sheet music that might have something?
