Where can I get MoonPies in SFBay... right now? My local 7-11 and CVS have let me down. It's after 8pm--where on the peninsula (Palo Alto, Atherton, Menlo, Los Altos, etc) can I get one? Their website wasn't much use... but I'll go to Wal-Mart if I have to.

What am I missing in SFO?

San Francisco What To Do Filter: I'll be out in the city for spring break this year, and i'm looking for new things to do. I've been a few times before, so what have i missed? It's been a few years since this question has been asked, so i ask it again; perhaps new things have come up. I've been to san fran about half a dozen times before and i feel like i've done all of the big stuff. I've walked down market street, i've wandered around the castro and the haight. I've ridden a bike through golden gate park, marched up twin peaks etc etc.

What are some more..."off the beaten path" things i can get into? I'm looking for those everpresent {art, tech, food(ie), wannabe hipster, alt} culture / underground places that makes sfo so vibrant (or annoying, depending on who you ask). I won't have transportation beyond muni/bart/rentabike, should that be a factor.

What's the deal with Santa Clara?

Why is Santa Clara so much less expensive than Mountain View or Sunnyvale? I'm looking to rent a place in the South Bay. The rents in Santa Clara are more attractive than Mountain View or Sunnyvale. The crime rate appears to be comparable if not lower [link]. The weather in Santa Clara appears to be (very) slightly better [Link, Link].

The only reasons I can think of are that 1: it doesn't have a cute downtown like Mountain View, and 2: Mountain View is in a more prestigious location due to its proximity to the peninsula (which doesn't mean squat to me). Am I missing something here? I don't want to move there only to discover that it has some terrible or annoying affliction that's not obvious to me right now.

Buying for potlucks.

What to bring to a potluck if one is completely inept in the kitchen? It seems like almost all the get-togethers among my friends -- regardless of which social circle -- are potlucks of one sort or another. I love this in concept but am always at a loss for how to contribute, given that I can barely cook pasta for myself without burning the kitchen down. Although I always bring beer for myself, I don't bring booze for others since just about everyone else is more discerning/knowledgable about wines/liquor than I am. Therefore, what are some suggestions for tasty foodstuff to pick up somewhere, items that can travel a bit (i.e. that don't have to be prepared hot in the kitchen) and won't seem too out of place next to home-cooked dishes? For example, maybe something special from an out-of-the-way local bakery? I'm in the SF Bay Area, for those who would like to share their favorite shops and specialties.

Discounted registration fee for Macworld?

I'm thinking of attending Macworld 2006 but I'm puzzled by the array of available discount codes to use when registering online. Any tips to share about that or about things to do while at Macworld?
