Moving to SF Bay area from Canada (most likely SJ). Wondering - is first + last months rent + damage deposit normal, or just first + damage deposit?
So I've lived in beautiful San Francisco, California since 2005, but I've recently started a job down in Sunnyvale. I can take Caltrain down there, but it's an hour's trip plus half an hour on either end to get from home/work to the Caltrain station in question. This is not sustainable, so I'd like to move south. I'm 31, single, and a city boy from way back, so moving to The Suburbs gives me pause. Also, I sold the only car I've ever owned back in '05 shortly after I moved here. So I have two questions: [more inside]
Please help a new grad move to San Francisco. I will probably arrive on June 1 and start working June 10, and I have $1500 for the whole move in process. Where do I stay while I'm apartment hunting? A hotel is very expensive and a hostel is pretty cramped. I could probably stay on a friend's couch but are there any other reasonable options for 1 month stays? [more inside]
Asking for a friend: Where in the Bay Area should a couple with one person commuting to the Embarcadero BART station (not Caltrain - this person works literally above the station) and the other person commuting to Menlo Park near the Dumbarton Bridge live? [more inside]
I'll be in San Francisco for a week, how should I plan for moving there four months later and should I move elsewhere? [more inside]
Is there any neighborhood or general area in San Francisco that allows a carless commute to the Mission, and where an indoor-outdoor cat could be reasonably safe? [more inside]
Moving to Austin from the Bay Area-filter: We're pondering a move to Austin from Sunnyvale in about a year. Have you done this? What were the surprises? What should we be thinking about? [more inside]
BAY AREA FILTER: Hey everyone... one of my best friends and his wife are moving to San Francisco, and I offered to help them figure out where they may want to move. If you live there, or have lived there, where would you recommend? They'd like an active lifestyle, and safe. Aside from that, he's making 50k and needs easy access to Mission Bay for work. They also really want public transit.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
