Can any sewing people answer this: How can I "recycle" sewing machine needles? It irritates me that after I've sewn some clothes or worked on a quilt, I have to toss the needles or my machine will get all huffy and start bollixing the thread -- especially the bobbin side. Can machine needles be resharpened or used for something else? I live in a small Texas town and it costs a lot (gas prices, you know) to travel over 100 miles to the nearest city to buy a new supply of sewing machine needles. Thanx.

Can anyone recommend a tailor in Seattle or the Eastside? I need alterations done on several pieces of women's clothing, somewhat more complicated than just doing hems, so I would like a real tailor, not a dry cleaning shop that does alterations. I've already Googled, but would much prefer a referral to someone whose services you have actually used.

Good gift/Bad gift?
So I thought that this year I'd get this same item for my son, my daughter, my adult niece and a couple of neighbourhood strays too.
I know for a fact that that they'll be tickled that it's not another flashlight or safety kit...
The item? A handheld battery operated sewing machine. (I can't seem to link it to the product)
These recipients are not handy people but I think that we can, all of us, use this from time to time to fix stuff around the house?
1: in theory, do you think it's a good idea?
2:do these things actually work? It almost has to work on it's own. Idiot-proof. Very simple for us to use - did I mention that we are not handy people?
(though not a weighty topic, I searched unsuccessfully to see if these machines had ever been discussed here)
Thanks!

If I make a piece of clothing from a store-bought sewing pattern and then sell the clothing, aren't I breaking some sort of copyright law? Likewise, if I buy a patterned fabric for my clothing and sell the clothing, are any laws broken because the fabric pattern was designed by someone else?

Can anyone recommend a skilled, reasonably-priced tailor in Los Angeles (preferably on the westside)? Mostly I'm looking for someone who can do some significant suit alterations and occasionally make an outfit from scratch if I provide the material and pattern. I really like the seamstress at my dry cleaners and am happy to have her hem skirts and pants when needed, but I'm looking for someone to do some more advanced work. Any ideas? Thanks!

Wanted: tips or detailed instructions for making a belt (clothing) out of fabric, iron-on "waist maker" tape, needle, thread, "belting" strap material, and (probably) some hooks. I'm not 100% sure how to fold/sew the fabric around the tape, especially the ends. No luck with Google, and the package instructions are sparse.

ClothingFilter: I need to find a tailor to make some alterations to an expensive sportcoat. The retailer I bought it from only does alterations to new items, and their tailor works for them... I've always had good experiences with that tailor, but the other things I've gotten done (through the place that dry cleans my clothes) really sucked. How can I find a good tailor besides trial and error?
