Truck + plow blade. Snow-covered driveway ending in garage. Can it work?

Dumb question: can a pick-up truck with a plow blade clear a short straight driveway that goes from the street right up to a garage? By design, the plow is intended push snow in front of it—so won't the result be a pile of snow against the garage door? Or can the blade be raised high enough so that the driver can move it over a mound of snow, lower the blade, and drive backward to pull the snow away? [more inside]

The best dating services

I'd like your opinions and personal experiences with on-line dating services for long-term monogamous relationships. I was very dissatisfied with match.com because I got a snotty customer service dude who used a tone with me because I didn't know they renewed automatically each month. Success stories welcome, too. I'm over forty. [more inside]

What is an "ideal" cloud storage or managed hosting server setup?

My company is looking to get in on the managed services/cloud server hosting side of the business. Think of what Amazon Cloud Services does with their pay as you go servers. I don't have much experience at all with this but have been asked to put some input. What is a standard, reliable, scalable configuration I could suggest? [more inside]

The Big blocks of technology & internet services

Twitter, Ticketmaster, Google, Facebook how do their architecture and infrastructure work. Looking for a book/site which explains how these tech services may be assembled. Obviously not looking for the secret sauce or anything. Just wanting to understand the bigger picture of how large scale technology work and come together. Not looking to understand the code aspect or nitty gritty details of how each component works. Just broad understanding is what I am looking for. I am a UI engineer looking to get more background on middleware and backend systems. Please recommend any sources/sites/blogs/books to help me gain decent insight.

Can corporations provide the same social safety net as charities and the government?

Someone made a comment on the blue recently about "this is what happens when private companies are put in charge of" some sort of social service and it got me thinking. I'm interested in any recent books or articles that give a good account of what goes right or wrong when private enterprise provides social services that charities and government-funded programs currently provide. Favorite San Francisco Webistes/Resources

I recently moved from Brunswick, Maine to San Francisco. I know there are all sorts of amazing things going on here, but I'm looking for unique, helpful, or interesting websites and services that are either specific to San Francisco, or primarily helpful in large cities that weren't available to me in Brunswick. Anything you'd call "Web 2.0" probably applies, and if it's in beta that's probably a good sign. I've got a (short) sample list after the fold. [more inside]
