About a decade ago, a book called "Delaying The Real World" came out, and it detailed ways to travel the US and the world and listed many organizations and ways to stay in a place for free and communally, while also being of service in some way. Is there another, more recent guide to ding this, or does anyone have resources for how to do this? I know/have done WWOOF and Workaway, but many of my destinations are cities and do not have these options (NOLA, Portland, the PNW in general, Nashville, Santa Cruz, Northhampton Mass, Provincetown). Thanks!
So, I did some research on this and reviews from Facebook say, that this is a decent cable. I cancelled my PS vue service in order to try it out as it has all HD and it is 4k ready. Has anyone here tried this service? If so what to expect? [more inside]

We're a small business currently using just a shared gmail account for our customer service inquiries. We're looking to switch to software better designed for this usage. I've been checking out Frontapp.com, freshdesk, zendesk., desk.com, salesforce, and others. One feature I'm having trouble nailing down though, is for the software to automatically search for certain keywords in the incoming emails and suggest canned responses we have on file based on what's found. Which platforms can do this?
A 2016 Congressional Research Service report says CPB received $445 million from Congress to fund public broadcasting in most recent two year appropriation. Later in the report, it says "While federal funding for CPB primarily comes from the Departments of Labor, Health & Human Service and Education, it may receive other sources of funding from the federal government." I work for a small non-profit that has had six linear feet of historical records on paper in somebody's basement for the last few decades. Would love any advice on how to deal with this situation: two months into a new S7 and the phone stopped making and receiving call. 2 hours with phone tech support and no luck. "Go into the shop and they will help you" I was told. Upon arrival i was told that it would be $75 dollars to assess or swap phones. After some arguing they agreed to try a hard reset. No luck. They said you can deal directly with Samsung if you dont want to pay us 75$ to do so. [more inside]

Long story short: I called an HVAC company that I used to work for because our boiler was having issues. They came out the next morning, gave me a deal on the labor rate, and reset the whole system. Less than 12 hours later, it's on the fritz again. I feel awkward about asking for a refund because they gave me a deal and came out right away, but they only temporarily fixed the problem. Should we or shouldn't we ask for a full or partial refund? [more inside]
Does this service exist -- an executive vice president for your house? Someone that you hire, and say to them, "I will give you $1000 a month, and you come in and do stuff to my house. Repairs, gardening, decorating, etc. I don't have to direct you, because you are making all of these choices yourself. Do you think the back bedroom needs to be painted? Then you do it, as long as you stay inside the monthly budget." [more inside]
Does anyone have experience with daily check-in services? Preferably ones which utilize automated phone calls? [more inside]
I'm in a big company that just sends me PDFs to print and give to people when they get to various years of service. I want to give them something a bit more fun. They are web developers and QA. Some sort of geeky trophy maybe? I'd be paying out of my own pocket so the focus is on meaningfulness, not cash value.
My good friend's mother passed away and they are having a memorial service at a temple and a shiva. I know the Christian protocols, but am wondering how to proceed. Is sending flowers appropriate? I understand bringing food to the shiva is customary (I know they do not keep kosher), do I bring it with me or take it ahead? Any other guidance here would be appreciated. My friend is quite distressed and I do not want to bother her with these questions at this time.

So: my 2-month-old PS4 has broken down, with error CE-34878-0 across all applications. Sony US normally replaces machines that have this issue. My problem: I have a Japanese PS4, and Sony US refuses to service it. Sony Japan could probably help, but I don't speak Japanese (and I live in the US). What can I do? [more inside]
I got a zipcar that I had to abandon 3 km into a trip due to a dangerous issue with the car. When I eventually managed to report it, arrange for it to be picked up, etc, I was told that I could get my taxi fare home refunded if I emailed in my receipt, but what is the right email? [more inside]

We recently moved and chose Frontier (formerly Verizon) FIOS for our Internet service since the other option was Comcast. The service is the lowest tier (50/50) but we were coming from DSL with lower speeds and it was fine so we were expecting it to be OK. And it is. Sometimes. Other times it is really slow to unusable. Like, the airport on my Mac won't even connect to the router sometimes. Sometimes it will connect but I have to wait 2-4 minutes for an URL I typed in to load. Sometimes it goes up and down, disconnectng and reconnecting our wifi devices every few minutes. And other times, like right now, it's absolutely fine. [more inside]

We donated a service provided by a third party (i.e. "not us") to a deduction-qualified church. The service has a clearly established price of $150. We didn't pay for the service, because the right to the service was given to us in compensation for the provider botching another instance of the service. Can we claim a deduction on our US federal taxes for the normal price of the service? [more inside]
I want to get better at accommodating others when they are trying to do something practical. Holding doors open for others is the obvious example, but other little things such as remembering to grab a spoon along with food someone requested, positioning myself as to not get in the way of others when people are moving things, keeping things tidy, retrieving the right tools for a job... I have had a number of technical difficulties with Dreamhost that have worsened over the last year and my account is up for a two-year renewal. What are good alternatives to Dreamhost, and how would I migrate the WP and wiki installations off their servers and onto the new hosting service?

- Storing the encrypted image file to two external HDDs
- Placing the external HDDs in two different (safe) physical locations
