I am looking for a server-side application, which will convert Excel documents (separate books or entire documents) along with html files, txt files, and doc files. The application will need to be able to watch folders "HotFolders" and batch convert automatically. I have done a good bit of searching and have not found anything that will work so far. If this was not an application, but was a .dll file this will work as well. Thanks.

What exactly is Perl? I've recently acquired a domain and am interested in server-side programming. The problem is that I have no experience and it's difficult as hell to find a reliable resource for beginners (minus any quick scripts). Any help would be most appreciated.
