I'm trying to install Ubuntu Server on a just out of the box Dell machine. After completing the install the machine hangs (displaying only a blinking cursor), and subsequent attempts at reinstall from the LiveCD result in hangs as well.

Looking for a new fax server. My company has a linux based fax server (Hilafax) that receives commands via php from our CRM that programs a URL into a standard web browser on our client machines containing the location of the document to fax and the fax number. We have over 100 stations and do a large amount of faxing. The Linux fax program is very unreliable.

I think the title explains it all:
I'm looking to get a list of all files in a specific directory from a web server- www.site.com/docs/. The thing is, there's an index.htm file in that directory so if I browse to it, I just get the index file. Is there any way to find out the names of all files in that directory, scripting or otherwise?

I would like to use the new release of Thunderbird (2.0) with my Yahoo account and am looking for a free SMTP service. I know Gmail lets you use its servers but apparently changes the 'From' field of the message to username@gmail.com for all messages. Is there any other service that I can use, apart from my ISP's (I shuffle between work, school and home).

Help me install Boot Drivers from a CD or in Windows. I don't have a Floppy Drive, but I already have Windows on my Machine. I can't install the Intel Storage Matrix because it doesn't detect the RAID controller in my BIOS, because it is disabled, because I can't boot into Windows when it is enabled.

I use a laptop at work, where all web traffic goes through a proxy server and is logged. I don't have a problem with that. If I don't change my configuration in Firefox when I am back home, and keep the routing through that proxy server, are they still logging my activity even though I am accessing the internet on my home network?

I am a photographer. My photographs are currently on a website that I used to work with but have since had a disagreement. I own the copyright to my images and would like the website to remove them. They are being very slow in their response as removing the images will create very negative publicity for them.
I have maintained their website for the last 4 years and have full admin access to their dedicated server. If I log in and remove my images, could I be accused of misuse of computers?

Website admin question: I want to put up a website with about 10000+ charts. I don't mind people copying images, but how can I protect against a site sucker barging in, scooping them up, and killing my bandwidth? I wish I could generate a bunch of static HTML pages with simple IMG tags, but I'm guessing this isn't possible. What might PHP have to offer for protecting my content from site suckers?

A dedicated Fedora Plesk server has been set up for me at a hosting company, and as a site admin I'm not sure what to do next. Is there a good guide or tutorial anywhere that will get me up to speed on preparing a dedicated server for a website that uses PHP and mysql? Will I have to install Apache? Are those programs normally installed by default with run-of-the-mill dedicated hosting? This company's documentation is scarce and I think I'm in over my head.

I recently setup a wireless/wired network for a hotel to be used by
about 75 guests. It was simply a matter of daisy chaining a few
Netgear switches (JFS516) from the ISP's DSL modem/router and then
connecting a few Netgear Access points (WG602) with alternating
channels on each floor (one per floor). DHCP is controlled by the
router. Everything worked great. However, now the hotel has
requested that the network be upgraded to include a page that intercepts all internet requests and I'm looking for tips on how to do that?
