I've set up a webdav service on my home server and am trying to back up my Zotero files onto it. The webdav service seems to work perfectly through a browser or cadaver but Zotero just stalls -- any suggestions? [more inside]
I'm not going to be doing much with this. I already have a NAS so this won't be a file server. I just want it to do a few things such as XBMC, OpenVPN server, Squeezebox server, etc.
It's going to be on 24/7, and I don't want it to use much power. Since it is isn't going to be doing too much, I don't want too spend much.
I tried the Raspberry Pi, but it doesn't have enough power. It can run one of these applications perfectly, but it can't run much more at the same time. Same with an old PogoPlug.
I was thinking about one of these: Beaglebone Black
? An old Dell Mini 9
If anyone has any ideas or can tell me about their low powered/low cost server, I'd appreciate it.

I run a couple of django-based websites/webapps. What OS should I use for my VPS? The most important thing is security and easy installation of packages (including dependencies). I also prefer a system that is easy to maintain. Security is more important, but if all else is equal I would specifically love something with easy to make init-scripts. I know I can install third party packages to do just about anything, but I prefer a batteries-included approach if it exists. [more inside]

Why would a server start refusing http requests from itself? Curl, wget, lynx- all of them used to work, now I just get "connection refused". FTP still works, though, and it's only a problem with Apache- requests to the Lighttpd server on the same box work just fine.
Another longshot hardware question, but not the wood table kind: I have an OLD Dell PowerEdge 350. I'm running OpenSUSE 10.3. I'd like to monitor system stats like processor temperature and drive status via the normal IPMI drivers. This should be possible; I can get it working on a 1650 using the drivers from Dell's linux website. It doesn't mention the 350 anywhere. Ideas?
