What is the going rate for SEO copywriting jobs?
I'll need different rates for different jobs: 1) writing blog entries, 2) pitching blog stories to editors.
This is for quality copy, not just keyword dumps, for corporate clients.
Please, also, any anecdotes about negotiating prices for such jobs would be appreciated.

You have two sites - site1.com and site2.com. Site1 has been around for years, and you've merged it with another site to become site2.com. Site1.com has accumulated years worth of links, backlinks, domain authority, and so on - and you want to pass that one to site2.com in the best way possible. More inside, naturally. [more inside]

[ten_letter_name_ending_in_CH].com is not available. But [first_eight_letters].ch is. Is it complete folly to make this 'domain hack' the primary domain for a combined architecture and photography practice? [more inside]

I am an expert in "widgets". I own several domain names such as "widgetexpert.com", "widgetreview.com" ...you get the idea. All in all, I have about 5 domain names that are specific to my expertise for my consulting business. However, in the end, I only want to give clients ONE url to find my website (probably the expert.com one I listed above) and to put on business cards, letterhead, etc..
When it comes to search engine optimization (SEO), how important or helpful is it to have multiple permutations of domain names as opposed to keywording in the website itself? I keep coming up with new catchy website names that I could buy and redirect to the main site, but I'm not sure if this is just vanity speaking or if there's real value in doing this.
I have read another post indicating that this is not a very fruitful activity. Nevertheless, let's say for example, I was an expert in camcorders. Consequently, I would own camcorderexpert.com, camcorderreview.com, etc..But I also want to capture the question, "Should I buy sony?" Wouldn't that be captured "best" by shouldibuysony.com or whybuysony.com ...You get the idea.

I've been publishing a blog for a couple of years on Wordpress. Whenever I log into the dashboard, I'm informed that my domain "is available to be registered and added to your blog. (You can use it as your blog address.)"
support page on domains is here
Are there any drawbacks to registering it? Will all the widgets work the same way? Will my SEO be effected? Will my wordpress followers still be subscribed? What else should I consider?
It's a small blog updated with a couple lengthy posts each week; about 300 subscribers and 500 page views per day.

I'm interested in reading a thoughtful and well-researched article criticizing modern thinking about the merits of Search Engine Optimization. But because SEO is SEO, every time I search for an anti-SEO article, it seems to be pro-SEO click bait disguised behind an anti-SEO headline ("SEO sucks...that's why you should hire our company to do SEO.") I'm not saying I don't believe in SEO, but in our content farm era, I'm interested in whether there is anyone out there criticizing the whole concept?

I've been tasked with creating (well, refactoring and redesigning) a web app for managing a security company. It includes call logs, encounter reports, regions, locations, duties (patrols), various kinds of bulletins, and other things. If I were to search for existing software that covers the same purpose, what would I search for? What is this kind of thing called? [more inside]

I have eight months until a big book release, and I figure my main job until then is to promote my blog and my book. So how do I go about that in an effective way? I know *some* of what I'm supposed to do (write lots of good blog content, guest post a lot, get backlinks), but even for those parts, I imagine there are better and worse ways of going about it (asking people to link to certain articles doesn't seem to work very well, and I haven't had much luck with guest posting offers lately.) Any good books or articles on this subject? Or suggestions of your own?

I've been presented with a business idea for a search engine or Web application that would require the user of the search engine to a pay a fee for the search results. Intuitively, I don't think this could work, but I'm having a hard time actually saying why. Historically, I think most search engines have been funded through advertisements or marketers who purchase profile data on searchers. Is there anything I could point to, such as a case study or an article in a journal or magazine, that would explain why a business model based on getting somebody to pay for the results for a search engine will or won't work?

Fiverr.com is full of people offering various sorts of SEO services (Writing articles, running SeNuke xCR, creating link wheels, keyword analysis, all sorts of crazy stuff). Many of these people have thousands of positive reviews. Is this all garbage, or can I pay $50 to a bunch of people and significantly improve my search rankings? [more inside]

Most Read Articles | Related Articles | Recommended Articles: These kinds of things that you see on news websites, what are they called? Is there an all encompassing UX term for this? How do content managers decide what is placed where? Do users even click on these links or are they just used to make sure search crawlers get to deeper content? [more inside]

I'm wondering if anyone could suggest a tool or website that allows me to see a list of sites that a particular website is pulling news from. I know I can do this manually by looking at articles and noting the sites that are sourced, but I'm wondering if there is an easier way to do it.

Why is google indexing my personal domain "better" than my work's domain - both have WP blogs, but only posts under my personal domain show up in the Google Alert I have for my name. I am responsible for the visibility of my employer's blog and I do not think it's being crawled effectively (or something). [more inside]

Though I've been working with web development since the 90's, I have a hands-on knowledge gap when it comes to internet marketing techniques like SEO, Adwords, analytics and the like. What are the best sources, free or paid, to learn more? I've been looking around for good resources, but it looks like this field is dominated by crooks. Any recommendations of books and sites written by reputable professionals is appreciated. I'm also a big fan of video lectures, if you know of any.

I'm looking for ways to improve my (non-commercial and very new) anonymous online presence-- to make it easy for potential readers to find my personal blog and Twitter account. If this were any other sort of site I would know (or be able to figure out) what to do, but because it's anonymous (and by definition/subject matter a bit vague) I'm not sure where to start.
