Away We Go - It's The Final Countdown

We're looking to relocate our family and have narrowed down our options (with the help of Metafilter) to Buenos Aires (Argentina), Toronto (Canada) and Melbourne (Australia). We've done our due diligence with on-line research, but we'd like to hear some personal anecdotes/experiences from people who've lived, worked or traveled to any of the above. [more inside]

Away We Go - Again?

Almost three years ago, we asked for suggestions of family-friendly, queer friendly, and senior friendly locales to set down roots. In light of recent events we'd like to revisit the question, but with a specific focus on areas outside the USA - though if you know of/live in a particularly staunch bastion of of our criteria on our native soil, we'd still like to hear about it! Gettin' Mom Some Teeth

My mom's in dire need of a dental makeover. She's 82 and over the last few years her teeth have really suffered - broken, fallen out etc. She stopped seeing her dentist a few years back because of what appeared to be egregious billing and a ridiculous $43,000 proposed dental plan for her. She's not in pain, but she's got some serious gaps and chewing problems. Problem is, neither of us can afford to get her fixed up. Other than DIY dental implants, maybe you have an idea or two....? How do we make our Senior Center computer room the envy of the world?

I work at a senior center and we received a grant to create a computer room with 7 brand new PCs running Windows with touch screens and internet access. Awesome! Moving your parent to a Senior Living Home

My friend is faced with moving her mother to a 'Senior Living Home'. (Connecticut) A lot of factors led to this; tests and professional advice, safety concerns, Mom's reluctant consent etc. Daughter understands all this, and will be relieved by her Mom's move to full-time care, but at the same time feels devastated taking this action. Abandonment, loss of memory and communication...... While other family members have visited the location and are happy with it, we will be visiting soon for the first time. 1. What should we consider? Where can a consumer look for possible violations or complaints? 2. I never had to face this. How can I support her?

Help me help my elderly parents learn to use an iPad.

Once my iPad 3 arrives this Friday, I'm planning on giving my 1st generation iPad to my parents. They're both in their 60s and fairly computer illiterate. I've tried to teach them the basics, but what apps or websites could I pre-install on the iPad when I give it to them to help them learn at their own pace? Bonus question; Dad likes soccer and I don't, so what's your recommendation for the best soccer apps to put on there? [more inside]
