Mac mail sends with one gmail account but the recipient sees it sent from another gmail account. Help?

For several days I had an intermittent problem sending email from my Mac Mail program. I have three addresses set up through the program, including my main account (from my own website) that i have used for more than two years. Now the smtp is rejecting me.

Please tell me everything I need to know about the GMail dot feature (placing - or not placing - a dot in the username of a gmail email address). I don't understand it, how to use it, what it does and how to take advantage of it. As an email receiver and sender. Also, what problems are created with this? Is there a way I can use it to categorize email, both received and sent?

I'm getting the following message attempting to send e-mails:
"An error occurred while sending mail. The mail server responded. 4.3.0
problem running virus scanner. Please check message and try again."
Is this a Thunderbird, Dell or Cedant issue?

I use Mozilla Thunderbird for e-mail but, beginning about a week ago, although people received and continue to receive e-mails from me that are ok, when I open the same e-mails in my "send" file to review them, they're either blank or a jumble of code, often, related to e-mails other than what I just opened. Help!
