Road trip filter! We're spending today (and tonight) in Portland and want to be in Seattle by mid-afternoon tomorrow. On the way, we'd like to visit a volcanic (or geological) outdoorsy spot. The original idea was to hike the Ape Cave lava tube, but looking at a map, it may be too far out of the way if we want to leave Portland at 9am and reach Seattle by 4. Any good alternatives?

What would be a great day hike this weekend near Seattle? We're looking for a hike that is accessible and glorious this time of year for a day date/outing.

I want to go camping this weekend somewhere inside a 3 hour drive (or so) from Seattle. I'd prefer backcountry camping so I've got some isolation. But I don't particularly want to hike and camp in the snow, so I need to stick to a low elevation. What are some good options?

I will be in Seattle in mid-August and would like recommendations for short (2-3) hiking trips that are accessible by public transit. Or by car (no more than 45 minutes from downtown). Thanks,
