So this last year has been quite tough. And I find that often in the evenings all I want to do is sit at a computer and consume news/videos/blogs. Well, that's not quite true. Actually I'd rather be creating. But I can't find the energy to lift myself up and turn from consumer to creator. I'm just too tired. [more inside]
I am about to be interviewed for a part-time seasonal, retail position. This would simply be something to supplement my main income, and very temporary. I have about 15 years of high level retail management experience that I gained prior to the full-time non-retail management position I now have. I heard that the hiring managers sometimes do not want to hire people who are vastly overqualified, so my question is this: Should I reveal how much retail experience I actually have, or should I try to downplay it?
I'm hosting a Passover seder next Friday night. (!) One of the things I'm cooking is a brisket. I need to buy a 3.5 lb flat cut brisket sometime between now and Friday morning. What is the risk that the store will run out of said brisket because so many people cook brisket on Passover? [more inside]
Are there any stores in NYC where I can buy a lightbox today or in Denver/Boulder where I can buy one this weekend? [more inside]

After some great success with a lavender and blueberry sauce I was thinking it would be fun to have a whole party based around flower/flowering food and drink. I've got blooming flower tea and rose-infused vodka on the list, and my local market occasionally sells edible flowers around this time of year - but what are some other flower-based dishes I should be looking at? What should I be looking out for in terms of safety and not accidentally poisoning my guests? What kind of springtime courses would be in season? (For the sake of my sanity I'm going to try for buffet style small plates) And is there anyplace online or in the NYC area that specializes in edible flowers? [more inside]
I will be in Paris for a week and some change between Christmas and New Years. I've been before so I know all the standard tourist spots- but I know the holiday season will mess up openings and closings so I'm interested in fun, interesting things and places ...that will be open. Ideally looking for performances, music, English-language theater, etc. I'll be traveling with a classical musician with a fondness for opera, so looking for things along those lines. Any seasonally specific events or things I shouldn't miss?
I am working on a playlist for a restaurant. I would like suggestions of instrumental music that evokes summer, fall, winter and spring. I tried some tropical music by Martin Denny which worked really well for summer. It is a Japanese restaurant in Japan. I think that jazz is the best match for the restaurant so I am looking for mostly jazz suggestions. See the current playlist linked below [more inside]
Happily one year and a few months sober, after close to a decade of progressively heavier drinking and self-destructive tendencies. After the first three months or so last year, dealing with the day to day of people having alcohol around me started to become much, much easier, until the past month or so, where the urge has hit me substantially harder. Seasonal? Just part of the territory? [more inside]
You like to juice! Say you were to purchase a box of seasonal produce to juice for the week, what proportion of greens/fruit/veggies would you want this box to contain? [more inside]

My girlfriend has applied for work as a sales associate at two upscale New York City department stores and has been offered a variety of clothing departments to work in at both. She wants to work through the holiday season and to earn as much as she can in that period via commission. Assuming that all departments offer the same rate of commission, can anyone advise us as to which departments would have the highest sales in Oct/Nov/Dec? Or point us to any internet resources with such info? I've been unable to dig up any on my own. Thanks!

A topical treatment to help relieve my cat's seasonal allergies (and the associated chewing/licking of fur on stomach and legs)?

I have a lot of long-sleeved dresses to drop off at a vintage store that purchases used clothes for re-sale. Is February too late to sell winter clothes to a vintage store? Should I wait til late summer to sell? [more inside]
What are the outstanding Chicago restaurants specializing in seasonal & local food and/or charcuterie for the broke-ass epicure? I'm planning a special birthday dinner at the end of the month. I'd like to spend $30-$40 for two people before drinks and a tip, so while I'm not going to settle for a Vienna Beef, I'm not exactly ready to book reservations at Alinea. [more inside]

I need recommendations for a (travel?) fan that is small enough to not take up much space when packed in a bag, but that nevertheless kicks out a very decent breeze. AC power (not batteries) very much preferred, since it will be used near-constantly and I'd eat through zillions of batteries otherwise. Reasoning explained after the break. [more inside]

Looking for seasonal music. We are not Christian, so we are looking for, in order of preference, Yule music, winter music (OK, I don't know exactly what I mean by that, but maybe you do), secular "Christmas" music. Got favorites you'd care to recommend? I'm mainly looking for CD titles, but would welcome song titles too.

Lately I've been hearing from people who support themselves on a low budget doing seasonal work part of the year: ski bums in Canada who plant trees up north in the summer, punks here in Pittsburgh who work the cranberry harvest out east each fall. I'm curious about this sort of job. [more inside]
Now the northern hemisphere is heading for another winter, do you suffer from SAD (seasonal affective disorder)? [mi] [more inside]
Seasonal color palettes: I googled, but came up with lots of image consultants that don't really tell you much. A friend of mine wants to go get clothes in colors that make her look good, and I know she's a Winter, but I'd like to show her a palette of colors.
