I have a rather extensive (read: physically burdensome) library of books I'd collected over the years that I'd like to digitize to take with me as I move on to my next adventure. I'm wondering what the best (most efficient, reliable, and economically efficient) way is to digitally preserve a large library of books as PDFs. I'm especially concerned to prevent files from becoming corrupted over time. [more inside]
Reinstalled Snow Leopard but ejected my external drive before this. Then, when done, plugged back in via USB as my usual custom....and Time Machine still shows up, but the External Seagate drive does not. I made sure that in Finder/Preferences that the external disc box as others was checked. I tried a different cord, and different port. I opened up Disc Utility and the External HD's partioned Time Machine is available but the other part, now renamed something else (a default name from manufacturer?) is greyed out and I cannot touch it. Any thoughts? Should i now go to the boot disc of Snow Leopard? Not sure why TM shows but the rest does not.
External hard drive not showing up on Mac. Customer service tells me to go to a computer shop to recover my data before they'll send me a replacement (it's in warranty until January). Computer shops do not seem to offer this service. Help? [more inside]

My Seagate FreeAgent external HD may have been damaged in a move. Making clicking noises and not being detected by my computer.

Can/should I re-use the enclosure for a hard drive I have outgrown as a housing for a new hard drive, or should I just buy new? Either way, what should I be buying? [more inside]
Why does the drive letter for my external hard drive keep changing? [more inside]
Every time I boot up my Intel Imac, I have to unplug and then replug my external hard drive in order for it to mount. It's a 160GB Seagate SATA internal that I put in an iRocks 3.5 enclosure (USB). When I open up Disk Utility, the drive is not displayed in the left column (until I unplug, then plug). It's just storage for my EyeTV files, but still annoying to have to do that every time. Ideas?
