I have a text file containing a list of image filenames and I'd like to be able to point at a folder and have it select, move or label based on the list of filenames. Is there software, script or tool that makes automating this possible? [more inside]

I have a few hundred jazz albums on MP3 in my iTunes library. I'd to add the names of the sidemen on the albums to the MP3's comment tags, but I'd rather not enter the info manually, for obvious reasons. Is there any form of script or program that exists that will do this for me -- perhaps pulling from Amazon, or some other source? (Prefix this with, "Hey, Lazyweb," if desired.) [more inside]

Four years ago, Aaorn asked after "free software that will let me set up a document dropbox on my web server. Basically I want to upload files and then have them be available -- through a nice-looking interface -- to users of my choosing." TooManyGadgets recently posted a question that brought DropBox to my attention, and after littleme was kind enough to share a DropBox beta invite, I wanted to revisit the original question. Obviously, there are lots of free scripts that offer the ability to do server-based file-sharing, but which is the best (security + ease of use, with free preferred but not necessary)? [more inside]

Hi there collective mind, I need help for a project finding a script (preferably php) to generate personalised imitation news stories. Something like this or this. Anything which superimposes letters onto a nice background would be great. Failing that anything that will change certain parts of an article into names/user entered text would be fantastic. Electronic-free-beers on me to anyone that helps. Sorry for being such a programming-cretin.

Trying to run python and cgi scripts on a non-dedicated godaddy account. (ie, I dont have shell access). But my ftp program can transmit 'raw' commands to the server. I uploaded a cgi script called "pythontest.cgi" (all this in the context of trying to install moinmoin on my godaddy account). I got the pythontest.cgi script from the moinmoin instructions on installing it.
I do have python, supposedly, on my account (its in usr/bin/python). I'm supposed to be able to run CGI scripts from the cgi folder (which is where it is now). I uploaded it in ASCII (as opposed to binary) as they told me to. Godaddy support hasnt been very useful beyond this point.
My question is: how in the world do I execute "pythontest.cgi"? I tried putting it in the address bar as a url (with full path) in mozilla. Got an internal server error.
Any ideas? Has anyone run scripts off a godaddy account? Has anyone installed a wiki on a non-dedicated godaddy account?
Thanks...

I'm creating a series of Photoshop Actions to automate processing images for my blogs. Most of it is resizing images and the like, which is easily done in an action. As part of this, I'd like to open a dialog to ask for a filename, then to save the processed image to a specific directory with that filename. Can that be done in an action, or do I need to write a script to do it? [more inside]

Website Content Management Q: I'm setting up a website for my online comic and have no idea what script is needed (or possible) to automate the "previous" and "next" navigation buttons to show a strip to my visitors on a page they haven't yet visited. Make sense?
Also, are there any easy to install scripts that automatically update my site by posting today's strip that I have previously uploaded (so I don't have to upload or change code every single day)???

I need a php or cgi image uploader script that's hopefully not too difficult to install. I'd like to be able to give some family members a place to upload pics so that they can link to them for whatever reason. I'd like them to be able to upload one or multiple pics, and a huge bonus would be if it could show the url for each pic uploaded, so that absolutely no thinking is required on the part of anyone who doesn't get the intarweb (which is most of my family). -------> [more inside]

I build a lot of "community" sites - that is, not web communities, but websites that support specific communities. So I'm hunting around for a good set of decent and free PHP/MySQL scripts to do the sorts of things these communities often demand. Now up? A public events calendar and classified ads. AskMeFi has helped before, so hat in hand, I come back to the well hoping for more. [More Inside] [more inside]

How many words are in a 30 minute teevee show? I am writing the text to a half hour "How to use our library's historical database" show. I am doing it for public access with the local historical society. I have about 24-26 minutes to work with and I'm wondering what word length I should aim for? It will be a pretty low tech affair -- screen shots and pointers -- but if anyone can give me some advice as far as length [or anything else honestly] I'd sure appreciate it.

Speaking of movie scripts, recently a concept for one barged it's way into my head - without even wiping it's feet. There it was. I assume that, in such cases, it's who you know that is important. So - not knowing anyone - I wonder if I should bother (more inside), but I do feel like developing it a bit. Should I noodle out the minutia of dialogue or simply focus on the broad concept ? I once found a site that had humourous movie scripts, abbreviated with snarky dialogue added in. Some of the scripts were brilliantly funny (The Matrix is one I remember in particular), and I can't for the life of me remember the name of the site and I don't have it bookmarked. I had thought the word abbreviated was in the title, but a google using that term and movie scripts didn't yield any results, neither did a lot of guesses about what I thought the site was called. Help?
